Have you ever been lost? I mean REALLY lost! Have you ever had the passengers of your vehicle begin to inquire, “Are you lost?” When you do finally come to that disturbing realization, it is difficult to actually admit it.
Did you know that all are lost? Yes, that’s right. Everyone that is without God is lost. While all want to go to Heaven, it is very clear in God’s Word, the Bible, that all living in sin are lost. All are on the wrong path. Many roads do not lead to Heaven—only one way does. Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” If you aren’t living in obedience to God and His Word, you are lost. You are on the road toward eternal torment.
What are you to do if you are lost?
1. Realize you are lost.
The first step that we come to is realizing that we are lost. We can persist continually in our own way, but we must eventually own up to the fact that we are all wrong. We are lost—lost in sin. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Everyone has sinned; we have all disobeyed God and His Word. You cannot find your way to God until you admit that you are really lost.
2. Call out to God.
When you are headed down the wrong road in a car, you should stop and ask for directions from someone who can help. If you stop right in your tracks and call out to God, you can be certain that He will not only hear you, but He will rescue you. Romans 10:13 says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Remember, He said that He was the way and the truth. There is no other way to Heaven but through Jesus.
3. Repent of your sin.
Once you are enlightened as to what you should do, repentance should immediately follow. To repent means to turn around. You must agree with God that your sinful, selfish, wicked ways are wrong, and trust Jesus to save you and to put you in the right way. Second Corinthians 7:10: “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation.” If you are traveling one of our nation’s highways, it is not usually legal to make a u-turn, but on God’s highway u-turns are welcomed. Are you still headed the wrong way? Repent of your sin—make a u-turn!
4. Trust fully in God.
You must believe that Jesus can save you and give you a new life on a new path. Jesus Christ paid sin’s penalty by His death on the Cross. He bore your punishment, so that you could be saved. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved” (Acts 16:31). God is faithful and just to forgive and change you, but you must be willing to fully trust Him.
You are on the right path!
Now God will assure you that you are indeed on the right path, headed in the right direction, to the right place. “The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God” (Romans 8:16). We can know for certain where we are headed.
If you are lost today, why don’t you let Jesus show you the way?
Luke 19:10: “For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.”
