Who am I? I am Leeland James Aitkins and I was born on September 1, 2009. I was welcomed into a loving Christian home with my Dad, Mom and brother Aiden.
It didn’t take long for me to be busy in this world. From the beginning I was a busy little guy always looking for the adventure. My brother Aiden was my best friend and we did everything together, even if that meant me being the guinea pig. No matter what, I loved my brother and always looked up to him. I had a lot of trips to the doctors and hospitals due to my sense for adventure. I loved playing with tractors, farming, playing with playdough at my Gram’s or as I would call her Mom. I always looked forward to riding in the beep-beep (skidloader) with my Pap and Dad. And of course when my Dad would take me for dirt bike rides I always found a thrill in it. When you would see me, I always had my favorite blue bunny and I called him Mr. Bunny.
I thought one day I would ride bike with my Daddy, farm with my brother, but always called my Momma’s little boy. But life changed on March 15, 2012 when I was killed in an accident at my house.
My Mom had taken me to the doctor that morning because of my sense of adventure I had cut myself. I got my first stitches in my little finger. Mommy bought Aiden and I a sand box to play with because I was such a good little trooper. This would be my last truck ride across the farm on my Mom’s lap. But since I didn’t know I was leaving I decided to take some white paint in a can on the back of my Dad and Mom’s truck and run the little tractor I was holding across the bed of the truck to make my mark here on earth.
When we got home my Mommy unloaded the sand box and my brother Aiden and I went right to work. We played for about a half an hour in the sand box. My great uncle had come to use our family vehicle and when I heard the truck start I thought it was my mom.
You see I was always watching Mom and always wanted to know where she was. I guess that is why they say I was a mommy’s boy. But when I heard the truck start I ran for my mom and that is when I met Jesus. I was accidentally run over at our house. My mom ran for me but from a different direction and she could not save me.
You see she could not save me because only Jesus can do that. And that day I met Jesus and He took me home to be with Him forever. I left a big hole in my Daddy, Mommy, brother, and all my family’s heart. And so you see that is who I am!
“Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes”(James 4:14).
So the question is, can you say that Jesus is mine and I am His? If not you can see how quick my little life was taken home to be with Jesus. We don’t know how we will leave this earth but ones thing is for sure, we can know where we are going!
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
I would love for you to join me and Jesus in Heaven one day and I can show you who I am!
“Who am I, that the Lord of all the earth would care to know my name, would care to feel my hurt?
Who am I, that the bright and morning star would choose to light the way for my ever wandering heart?
Not because of who I am, but because of what you’ve done. Not because of what you I’ve done, but because of who You are.
I am a flower quickly fading. Here today and gone tomorrow; a wave tossed in the ocean, a vapor in the wind.
Still you hear me when I’m calling. Lord, You catch me when I’m falling. And You’ve told me who I am: I am Yours.”
