"Boy, I'm sure glad I brought my spear gun."
Notice how some people trust everyone?
"Sure, I'll cosign this car loan for. you."
While others trust nobody?
But are they totally without trust?
"I trust you, baby!"
It seems that everybody trust somebody (or something) for some things ..."
"You need a quadruple bypass."
... But not for other things.
"Uh ... are you sure you know what you're doing, doc?"
So why do so many people trust in themselves ...
"I'm a good person. I believe in myself!"
... when it comes to getting into Heaven?
"Heaven?"
Many people think they can get into Heaven by trusting in their own good deeds.
"One more old lady to help and I've got my merit badge."
Then what do they do with their bad deeds? Ignore them? Rationalize them?
"Let's see, that old car I donated should be worth a few thousand dollars. Yeah, that's legit. After all, it was my money in the first place."
Why not just trust in the One who made Heaven in the first place?
"Thou, art Lord alone; thou hast made heaven ... the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all." Nehemiah 9:6
"So how do we do that?"
Even though you wouldn't trust a heart surgeon to do plumbing, or a plumber to do heart surgery ...
"Looks like the dude needs a new washer to me."
... you can trust the Creator of Heaven to provide instructions on how to get there.
"For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ." Philippians 3:20
"Wow!"
"That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." Romans 10:9
It is simply a matter of placing your trust in Jesus (having faith that He died for your sins and then rose from the grave), rather than your own efforts for eternal life.
"Wow!"
"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Ephesians 2:8,9
"Lord Jesus, I place my trust in You and You alone for eternal life. Thank you for dying on the cross for me ... amen."
"How how about you? What are you trusting to get to Heaven?"
