What if this is your life? The phone rings and your doctor is desperate to schedule a conference with you. You immediately suspect the worst. Can you imagine the knot growing in your stomach as you wait to hear the bad news?
When you finally hear the diagnosis, you are devastated—you have terminal cancer. You frantically begin reading and searching books, looking for a cure and a way to avoid death. But you keep getting worse and worse until you realize there is nothing you can do to save yourself.
What if there was a treatment the doctor knew about that was guaranteed to save you? Would you want to know? Would you listen?
God’s word says you have a serious problem. Just like this patient, we also are diagnosed with a serious problem that leads to death—sin, which is breaking God’s laws.
“For the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).
You have been diagnosed by God’s law as having the cancer called sin. This problem wages a war within your deepest being. You try to fight it and are afraid to admit it, but there is no escaping it. Because of our sin we will be eternally separated from God and wind up in hell.
“For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
But the diagnosis isn’t over yet—because the Bible says there is a cure.
God sent His sinless Son (Jesus) to earth and Jesus died the death that we deserved on the cross. After paying the punishment for our sins, Jesus rose again, defeating the power of death. This is the good news of the Gospel. The Gospel is the cure.
“For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
“Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life” (John 5:39-40).
This is your life and you have two decisions: you can ignore this diagnosis and cure and die in your sins. Or you can ask Jesus to save you today.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
No one else can save you. Your money, yourself, your possessions, your priest, pastor, or rabbi cannot save you. Nobody has the guarantee of another day of life. So do not delay. Ask Jesus to save you today.
“Seek ye the Lord while He may be found, call ye upon Him while He is near” (Isaiah 55:6).
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).
How can you be saved? Repent—turn from your sin and rebellion to God. Believe the Gospel and ask Jesus to forgive your sin, save you, and come into your life.
My friend, next find a good Bible-believing church to fellowship in and get baptized. If you accepted this cure, you made the best decision for your life today!
