No one likes to be lied to, yet most of us EXPECT to be lied to today. Sadly, we expect it from politicians, salespeople, lawyers and television commercials. It’s so prevalent in our society today that many have become cynical about anything being true. But there IS a source of truth today, if you’re willing to accept it. This truth is like strong medicine in that it’s hard to take, but if taken, can heal you.
Here are 7 truths from God’s book.
“The Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.” Genesis 2:7
No, you did not evolve from nothing by accident, but God created you “in His image”. You have the capacity of having a personal relationship with your Creator. You have a will, emotions, a unique personality—in short “a soul”. With this soul (along with your spirit), you have a spiritual dimension that all other creation does not. You were created with the express purpose of fellowshipping with God.
“The Lord God commanded the man, saying, of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.” Genesis 2:16-17
When Adam and Eve disobeyed God’s command, they died spiritually. That resulted in a disconnect between them and God. Sin had infected the human race. Today, all of us are born with a sinful nature and disconnected from God. The struggles of the world today is evidence of this.
“And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden.” Genesis 3:8
Whereas before mankind enjoyed wonderful fellowship with his Creator, now his guilty conscience made him hide from God. Today, God is still calling out and man is still hiding from (or ignoring) Him because we all feel that sense of guilt.
“Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh [man] be justified in His sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin.” Romans 3:20
God’s laws were given to be a mirror, showing us how we fall short of His standard (which is perfection), and to prompt us to look to Him for forgiveness. We all like to believe that we’re a good person, but just read the ten commandments and see how you do! The truth is, we are all sinners by birth and practice. This is our problem—how can we as guilty sinners be right with a Holy God? We cannot get right by doing good deeds. So what is the answer?
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that WHOSOEVER believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
The Bible says that “God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto Himself” (2 Corinthians 5:19). God put all of our sins on Jesus and punished them on the cross! That’s right, Jesus paid the price for our sins and God can now justly forgive us of any and all sins. That’s why they call Him the Saviour!
“But now God commandeth all men [and women] every where to repent.” Acts 17:30
But we are NOT automatically forgiven because of what Jesus did for us. God requires a fitting response to this act of love and mercy. We must surrender to God’s truth and trust in Jesus as our own personal Saviour.
“I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy children may live”.
Deuteronomy 30:19
Here comes the strong medicine I referred to earlier. At the time of judgment after death, Jesus will either be your Saviour or your Judge. He has paid the price for you to be saved from all of your sins, but He has left it up to you to come to Him. He will draw you, but He will not force you. And it is to Him alone that you need to come—He alone can save. But if you reject His love and mercy, you will have to stand before Him and answer for every idle word, every wrongdoing, and even every wrong thought. I urge you to come to Christ today and experience the joy of coming to know Him in a personal way. You will then reverse the disconnect you have always felt with God, and experience the relationship that God wants you to have with Him.
