In 1985, the company Hasbro came out with a toy doll called “My Buddy” that was meant as a companion for young boys. Part of the lyrics for the My Buddy TV commercial said:
“My Buddy, My Buddy. Wherever I go, he goes… My Buddy and me!”
In the Bible, something similar takes place when someone believes the gospel—believes that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, died for their sins. He was buried, was raised the third day, and then appeared to His twelve disciples (1 Corinthians 15:3-5). That person is sealed with God’s Holy Spirit that goes with them wherever that person goes. “In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise” (Ephesians 1:13).
The Holy Spirit
While talking to His disciples, Jesus said, “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you” (John 14:16-17). Jesus also told them the Holy Spirit would guide them into all truth. All of the promises of the Holy Spirit that Jesus gave to His disciples are true for everyone who believes in Him (Jesus).
How to Find the Friend
One has to realize that they are a lost sinner, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Jesus also said that the Holy Spirit would convict the world of sin, because they didn’t believe in Him (Jesus) (John 16:9).
What does it mean to believe in Jesus? In John 3:16, we read “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes [or puts their faith] in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
The Best Buddy
So put your faith in Jesus Christ today. He will give you His companionship of everlasting life!
“For as He Himself has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you’” (Hebrews 13:5).
