There are many people who believe that if you live a morally good life you will be welcomed into heaven. I must confess I was one of them! The problem with this theory is summed by the question, how good is good enough? What I mean is that this belief holds no clear standard of measure. For example, one person may believe that feeding the hungry or helping those in need is good enough. But someone else may believe that you just need to go to church every Sunday and that’s good enough.
The Bible says in Romans 3:10, “As it is written: ‘There is none righteous, no not one.’” This means that according to God’s standards, no one is good enough to make it into heaven.
You may ask yourself, “Well if that’s the case, who can get into heaven? Is there hope?” I’m glad you asked. God loves us so much that He made a way for us to be with Him in heaven.
John 3:16-17 says “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” By Jesus dying on the cross, He made it possible for us to get into heaven. So you see, there is hope!
But it’s nothing that you or I can do; it’s a gift from God to those who trust in Him. Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
So, if you’re the kind of person who believes that living a morally good life is good enough to get into Heaven, I hope you’ve reconsidered. If you want to have eternal life and if you want to be reconciled to God, believe in Jesus Christ. Romans 10:9-10 says “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Will you take that step right now? Tomorrow is not promised to any of us. Turn from trusting anything you can do, and rely only on what Jesus has done for you. Call out to God today, He will come and make you new.
“God, I confess that I’ve sinned, but God, I repent of my sins right now. I believe in your Son Jesus Christ who died on Calvary for my sins and rose on the third day for my justification. I ask you to come into my heart and fill me with your Holy Spirit. I thank you for saving me in Jesus’ name, amen.”
If you said this prayer and meant it, you are saved! God bless you and keep you—now go and tell someone and pass it on!
