Apollo 13 astronaut Jack Swigert’s message to the Houston Space Center
Houston, we have a problem.
In April 1970, three American astronauts had a problem. A big problem. Approximately 200,000 miles from earth, the oxygen tank on their spacecraft exploded. Fortunately, they were rescued and returned safely to earth.
We also have a problem. A much bigger problem. Do you know the answer?
The Problem
The Bible is clear: We have all sinned. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
“There is none righteous, no, not one” (Romans 3:10). Due to our sin, we are not fit to enter Heaven. But … there is good news!
The Answer
God has provided a Savior for us: His only Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus, both fully man and fully God, paid the penalty for our sins by shedding His blood on the cross.
“For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
“And it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
If you will receive Him, the Lord Jesus Christ has paid for your sins. If you won’t, you will have to pay for them.
We don’t have to wait until we die (or when Jesus returns) to enjoy the benefits of being reconciled to God.
Jesus said in John 10:10, “… I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
Your Decision
If you would like to receive God’s Son into your life, talk with God now. It might sound something like the following. Please accept Jesus Christ.
Dear God,
I admit I am a sinner and that I need a Savior. Thank You for providing a Savior for us – Your Son, Jesus Christ.
I believe that Jesus died for our sins, according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. I am sorry for all the wrong I’ve done and ask You to please forgive me. Please help me to turn from my sins and to follow You. I place my faith in Jesus Christ as my Savior and confess Jesus as Lord. Amen.
