Many people that go to a local church for worship are heading to Hell if they die today. Satan deceives many people to make them believe they will enter God’s kingdom just because they are members of a local church. You can go to a local church, but you are not part of the Church of Jesus. Why will some people who go to church go to Hell?
First, they do not belong to God. God knows those who belong to Him. People who practice evil do not belong to God. Some claim that they belong to God, but they don’t live for God. They “hate good and love evil” (Micah 3:2). “But God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: ‘The Lord knows those who are his,’ and ‘All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil’” (2 Timothy 2:19). You must turn from evil.
Second, they do not belong to Jesus. Jesus says “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’” (Matthew 7:21-23). Are you doing the will of God?
If you obey Jesus, he is your Lord (Luke 6:46-49). If you obey Jesus, he is your Savior (Hebrews 5:9). Who and what you obey is your master or lord (Romans 6:16; Matthew 6:24). What right do you have to claim Jesus is your Lord if you do not obey Him?
Jesus knows his followers. They hear Jesus’ voice. They obey Jesus because they love him (John 10:27-30; John 14:23). “If anyone does not love the Lord, that person is cursed. Our Lord, come!” (1 Corinthians 16:22).
Third, they belong to Satan. Many members of a local church are children of Satan because they sin like their father, the devil. “Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God. So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not live righteously and does not love other believers does not belong to God” (1 John 3:7-10).
Jesus says “For you are the children of your father the devil, and you love to do the evil things he does. He was a murderer from the beginning. He has always hated the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, it is consistent with his character; for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44).
God made Hell for Satan and his angels (Matthew 25:41). People who love to sin are going to Hell with Satan if they die in their sins (Revelation 20:7-10). “But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death” (Revelation 21:8).
You have a choice to make: you can either choose Jesus or Satan. Jesus loves God the Father and he loves people. Jesus proved his love for the Father by doing his will (Matthew 26:42; John 4:34; 5:30). Jesus loves people also. He says, “ There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13). If you choose Jesus, God will give you His Spirit to love like Jesus does (Romans 5:5). If you love God and people, you are like Jesus (Matthew 22:37,39; John 13:35). If you love the Father, you will do his will. If you love other believers, you are a disciple of Jesus (1 Corinthians 13:4-8; 1 John 3:16-18; 1 John 4:7,8). If you love sinners and your enemies, you are a child of God (Matthew 5:43-48). If you love sinners like Jesus does, you will bring them to him for salvation (Luke 5:27-32; 19:10; 15:1,2; Matthew 28:18-20). Do you pass the test of love? If you do, then you are not among those who are in a local church that are going to Hell. If you don’t pass the test of love, you belong to Satan. You will practice sin just like Satan. Since you make Satan your father, you will go to Hell with him. However, God is patient with you because he wants you to choose Jesus before you die. Jesus is the only way to God (John 14:6).
