What does the expression “Bought the Farm” mean and how did it come about?

“Bought the farm” means to die. The term came about if a soldier died in combat that the life insurance for the deceased soldier would go to pay the mortgage for the family farm.

In the Bible, in the book of Acts, chapter 20 verse 28, we read that Jesus Christ the Son of God bought the Church of God with His own blood.

How does one become a member of the Church of God? By believing Christ died for their sins, was buried, was raised the third day. After He rose again, He was seen by more than 500 people (1 Corinthians 15:3-5).

You have to realize you are a sinner (Romans 3:23), that the wages of sin is death, and that the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23).

In 1 Peter Chapter 1 verses 18 and 19, we read that we were not redeemed with corruptible things like gold or silver but with the precious Blood of Christ.

So believe on Him today!

“Therefore take heed to yourselves and to all the flock, among which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers, to shepherd the church of God which He purchased with His own blood” (Acts 20:28).

“For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once” (1 Corinthians 15:3-6).

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

“Knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot” (1 Peter 1:18-19).
