Yes, it is not only possible but an absolute certainty. However, under present conditions it is totally impossible. Are you confused? Let me try to explain.

Historical Background

Ever since Adam disobeyed God and was expelled from the Garden of Eden, “sin entered into the world, and death by sin” (Romans 5:12). The disease of sin affected everyone born into the world, causing enmity toward God, hatred toward mankind and the resulting strife, suffering and death. It has been clearly evident in the past and present history of man, and will be so until God intervenes in judgment, that “the way of peace have they not known” (Romans 3:17).

When God chose Israel as His earthly people they promised to obey His holy law. He gave them the law to prove to them their inability to keep it, that they were ruined by sin and needed a Saviour. Their failure mirrored the condition of all mankind, “that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God” (Romans 3:19).

Repeated Failures

After centuries of disobeying the Word of God and turning to other gods, Israel’s crowning sin was rejection of their promised Messiah. Christ came as prophesied in the appointed way, to the appointed place and at the appointed time. Alas, “He came unto His own, and His own received Him not” (John 1:11). The nation as a whole rejected Him and demanded that He be crucified. It was not only Israel, but the nations of the world as well that rejected Him. We read in Acts 4:26,27, “The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against the Lord, and against His Christ. For of a truth against Thy holy child Jesus, whom Thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together.”

A Worldwide Problem

The “Prince of Peace” was rejected. There is no change today in the attitude of the Middle East countries nor the nations of the world concerning Him. The rejection of Christ is a wicked thing, and Scripture says, “There is no peace, saith the Lord, unto the wicked” (Isaiah 48:22). All attempts of men to bring lasting peace to the volatile situation between Israel and her neighbors will be futile. Until Christ is received, peace is impossible!

The Only Solution

The nations of the Middle East and of the world at large will not have lasting peace until the Lord Jesus comes to judge this world in righteousness. The unrighteousness of disobedience to God and rejection of His Son must be judged. In fact, God has “appointed a day, in the which He will judge the world in righteousness” (Acts 17:31). Isaiah tells us, “When Thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness” (26:9); also, “Behold, a King shall reign in righteousness . . . And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever” (32:1,17).

Christ shall come to this earth with His saints to judge and reign! “This Man shall be the peace” (Micah 5:5). Only then will the long-standing hatred between Israel, the Arabs and all the nations of the world be replaced with peace because “the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord” (Isaiah 11:9). Jerusalem will be the capitol of the world. Christ will sit upon His throne and reign in righteousness. Peace in the Middle East and the whole world will not only be possible, but an abiding reality as prophesied in Revelation 11:15, “The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of His Christ; and He shall reign for ever and ever.”

What the Future Holds

Then will also be brought to pass the fulfillment of Isaiah 2:4, “And He shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.”

Can the reader have true, lasting peace on a personal basis? Today, when an individual repents toward God and puts his trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, his heart is changed and peace is given. To all such Jesus says, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give unto you” (John 14:27). Christ made peace by the blood of His cross (Colossians 1:20), and the person who trusts Him as Saviour is forgiven and justified by faith, and has “peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1).

To have that peace you must believe now that Christ died for your sins and rose again (1 Corinthians 15:3,4) before the day of grace ends with the coming of the Lord to the air to rapture all believers to heaven (1 Thessalonians 4:16,17). To be left behind on earth, or to die in your sins, will mean eternal judgment in hell for your rejection of Him (2 Thessalonians 2:8-12; John 3:36). —Don Johnson
