In ancient India, King Shirham was introduced to the game of chess.

Ha! Ha! Checkmate again!

You catch on fast, sire.

Tell me, Ben Dahir, how can I reward you for introducing me to this great game?

Easy.

Just give me a few grains of wheat.

A few grains of wheat?

How few?

Put one grain on the first square of the chessboard…

…2 grains on the second, 4 on the third…

…8 grains on the fourth, and so on.

Keep doubling the amount for each square until all 64 squares are accounted for.

That’s it? That’s all you want?

That’s it!

Well, that’s easy! You’ve got a deal!

Thus the steward began counting grains of wheat.

Steward, bring in the wheat!

By the 17th square, the table was full of wheat.

By the 26th square, the chamber was full of wheat.

Hmmm, let’s pick up the count.

By the 42nd square, the whole palace was full of wheat.

I think I made a mistake here.

He set the court mathematicians to work figuring what the damage would be by the 64th square.

We’ve got it! We’ve got the answer!

What is it?

What is it?

All you need, sire, is…

…enough wheat to cover all of India 50 feet deep!

I’m ruined!

Moral:

Poor King Shirham. If only he knew about the power of multiplication before he agreed to the deal.

Fortunately God understands the power of multiplication. He prompted Paul to instruct Timothy…

“And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses…

…entrust to reliable men…

…who will also be qualified to teach others.” 2 Timothy 2:2

Just think how far and fast Christianity would spread if each of us, through the power of the Holy Spirit, would disciple two people who in turn could disciple two others.

Jesus did it with just twelve people in three short years. At the end of His early life, He was able to say…

“It is finished!” (John 19:20)

2000 years later, the power of Jesus name is widely known throughout the world today.

Are there two people God is prompting you to disciple?
