Are You a True Sports Fan?

A true fan knows the game inside and out. They are proud to wear their team’s colors, celebrating the wins and staying loyal through tough seasons. Fans understand that winning or losing can come down to a split second, a fraction of an inch, or a single missed call.

Rules and Referees

Sports have rules to keep the competition fair and the competitors safe. That’s why there are trained officials, umpires, and referees—to make sure the rules are enforced and to blow the whistle when violations happen. Even world-class athletes miss a shot or break the rules, and when they do, the right call needs to be made.

The Game of Life

In life, we don’t always get it right. We’ve all stepped out of bounds and broken the rules. Maybe we think our errors aren’t that serious, but God’s rule book, the Bible, says otherwise. God is the ultimate referee who sees everything perfectly and His call stands:

All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

Penalties and Consequences

In sports, breaking the rules results in penalties, fouls, or even ejections. In life, the penalty for sin has far greater consequences:

The wages of sin is death.  Romans 6:23

After this the judgment.  Hebrews 9:27

By breaking God’s rules, we earn the penalty of death and are disqualified from going to Heaven. Trying harder won’t help. The Bible leaves no doubt: the deficit is too large for us to overcome on our own. We need to call in a substitute.

The Ultimate Substitute

Ready for some relief? God has the answer.

When we were yet without strength … Christ died for the ungodly. Romans 5:6

Jesus left Heaven and came to earth, where He lived a perfect, sinless life. He then took our place when He died on the cross, paying the death penalty we owed. Because of His sacrifice, we can be forgiven and have eternal life!

God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Make the Right Call

The game of life doesn’t last forever. The final whistle will blow. In the battle against sin and death, we cannot win on our own, but victory is within reach. Will you make the right call and accept God’s free gift of salvation?

By grace are ye saved through faith … it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

Simply admit you are a sinner, believe that Jesus died for your sins, and confess that He is your Lord and Savior today.

If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:9

The clock is ticking—make the right call today.
