How much candy will you eat this Halloween?

Across America, trick-or-treaters are expected to receive 600 million pounds of candy. That’s the same weight as 50,000 elephants—or 1,500 jumbo jets!

I don’t know who keeps track of all that candy, but I do know that God keeps track of some pretty amazing things. The Bible says that God knows exactly how many stars there are, and even has names for all of them. He knows your name, too. He even knows how many hairs are on your head.

God also keeps track of everything we say and do. Because He created us, He knows what is best for us. God loves us and wants us to be happy. He wants us to tell the truth and be kind. He tells us to obey our parents and other people who look after us. He commands us not to steal and not to be jealous of other people’s things.

If we’re honest, we must admit that we don’t always do what God wants. He hears every lie we say and He sees every time we fight with our brother or sister. He calls these things sin. We can try to sugarcoat the bad things we do, but unless our sins are washed clean, we can’t be friends with God.

But there is good news! God showed us His love when He sent His Son, Jesus, to pay the price for our sin. Jesus lived a perfect life, then willingly took our place and endured God’s punishment for all the wrong things we have done.

Because of what Jesus has done for us, God can offer you a treat far sweeter than a chocolate bar! His forgiveness is a free gift, but we must receive it. All you need to do is tell God that you know you are a sinner and believe that Jesus died for you on the cross. When we trust in Jesus, He washes away our sins and makes a home for us in Heaven so we can live with Him some day. Talk to God today—He will hear you no matter where you are or what words you say.

“God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
