Perhaps true peace seems impossible amid the stress of financial decisions, the flurry of the holiday season, and the pressures of gift-buying. Maybe the thought of finding true, inner peace seems hopeless when everything is so busy and stressful. As hopeless as it may seem, the Bible tells us how to gain peace. It also tells us what stands in the way of gaining true peace.

no peace

God says twice, “‘There is no peace,’ says the Lord, ‘for the wicked’” (Isaiah 48:22; 57:21). You may say, “But I am not wicked!” You are probably a very nice person. Perhaps you try to read and follow the Bible. You may be a member of a local church. Perhaps you were baptized as a child. These are all good things, but they do not relieve your lack of peace, because they do not cure your sin problem. The Bible says, “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). God says, “We are all like an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6). We are ALL wicked in God’s sight and thus we have no peace.

We lack peace because our sin separates us from God. “Your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear” (Isaiah 59:2). If not dealt with, your sin will lead you to eternal damnation when you die. “Anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:15).

the giver of peace

“Unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6).

Christmas is a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ—the Prince of PEACE. Peace with God can only come through humble trust in Jesus. “Having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 5:1).

Because we cannot solve our sin problem, Jesus Christ, the sinless Son of God, came to earth to take the punishment for our sin. He lived a perfect life and died for you. Romans 5:8 says, “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” 1 Peter 3:18 states, “Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 15:3,4
explains that “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day.” Christ died and rose again for YOU! You can have eternal life and true peace through Him.

will you accept the gift?

Christmas is also a time of gift-giving. A true gift is one that comes with no strings attached. It is given out of love. Eternal life is a gift, not something that you can purchase or earn. “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:8,9).

God offers you His free gift of salvation. Salvation is available to you if you are willing to humbly acknowledge your sinful condition before God (repent) and, in your heart, turn from sin to Christ. Mark 1:15 says, “Repent, and believe in the gospel.” Romans 10:9,13 say, “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved…. For ‘whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’”

Will you humbly accept the gift of salvation this Christmas season? In the best words you know how, tell Jesus that you are sorry for your sin and ask Him to save you. If you willingly turn to Him, Jesus promises His true and lasting peace to comfort your soul. “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you” (John 14:27).

Tal vez, la verdadera paz parece imposible en medio del estrés causado por las decisiones financieras, el ajetreo de la temporada navideña, y las presiones de la compra de regalos. Tal vez, parece no haber esperanza en la idea de encontrar la verdadera paz interna cuando todo a nuestro alrededor está lleno de actividad y estrés. Sin embargo, aunque parezca que no hay esperanza, la Biblia nos dice cómo obtener paz. También nos dice cuál es el obstáculo que evita que obtengamos la verdadera paz.

no hay paz

Dios dice dos veces: «No hay paz para los malvados —dice el SEÑOR—» (Isaías 48:22; 57:21). Tú podrías decir: «¡Pero yo no soy malvado!». Probablemente eres una persona muy amable. Tal vez tratas de leer y obedecer la Biblia. Puede que seas miembro de una iglesia local. Quizás fuiste bautizado cuando eras niño. Todas estas cosas son buenas, pero no alivian tu falta de paz, porque no solucionan el problema de tu pecado. La Biblia dice: «Por cuanto todos pecaron y no alcanzan la gloria de Dios» (Romanos 3:23). Dios dice que: «Todos nosotros somos como el inmundo, y como trapo de inmundicia todas nuestras obras justas» (Isaías 64:6). TODOS nosotros somos pecadores a los ojos de Dios y, por lo tanto, no tenemos paz.

Nuestra falta de paz se debe a que nuestro pecado nos separa de Dios. «Pero vuestras iniquidades han hecho separación entre vosotros y vuestro Dios, y vuestros pecados le han hecho esconder su rostro de vosotros para no escucharos» (Isaías 59:2). Si el problema de tu pecado no se soluciona, tu pecado te llevará a la condenación eterna cuando mueras. «Y el que no se encontraba inscrito en el libro de la vida fue arrojado al lago de fuego» (Apocalipsis 20:15). 

el dador de paz

«Porque un niño nos ha nacido, un hijo nos ha sido dado, y la soberanía reposará sobre sus hombros; y se llamará su nombre Admirable Consejero, Dios Poderoso, Padre Eterno, Príncipe de Paz» (Isaías 9:6).

La temporada navideña es un tiempo para celebrar el nacimiento de Jesucristo: El Príncipe de PAZ. La paz con Dios sólo puede ser posible por medio de la confianza humilde en Jesús. «Por tanto, habiendo sido justificados por la fe, tenemos paz para con Dios por medio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo» (Romanos 5:1).

Puesto que nosotros mismos no podemos arreglar nuestro problema del pecado, Jesucristo, el Hijo de Dios sin pecado, vino a este mundo para recibir el castigo por nuestro pecado. Él vivió una vida perfecta y murió por ti. Romanos 5:8 dice: «Pero Dios demuestra su amor para con nosotros, en que siendo aún pecadores, Cristo murió por nosotros». 1 Pedro 3:18 declara: «Porque también Cristo murió por los pecados una sola vez, el justo por los injustos, para llevarnos a Dios, muerto en la carne pero vivificado en el espíritu». 1 Corintios 15:3, 4 nos explica: «Que Cristo murió por nuestros pecados, conforme a las Escrituras; que fue sepultado y que resucitó al tercer día». ¡Jesucristo murió y resucitó por TI! Tú puedes tener vida eterna y verdadera paz por medio de Él.

¿aceptarás el regalo?

La navidad también es un tiempo para dar regalos. Un verdadero regalo es aquel que viene sin condiciones. Se da por amor. La vida eterna es un regalo; no es algo que puedes comprar, o ganar por medio del esfuerzo. «Porque por gracia habéis sido salvados por medio de la fe, y esto no de vosotros, sino que es don de Dios; no por obras, para que nadie se gloríe» (Efesios 2:8-9).

Dios te ofrece Su regalo gratuito de salvación. La salvación está disponible para ti si estás dispuesto a reconocer humildemente tu condición de pecador delante de Dios (arrepentimiento) y, en tu corazón, abandonar tu pecado y volverte a Cristo. Marcos 1:15 dice: «arrepentíos y creed en el evangelio». Romanos 10:9, 13 dice: «Que si confiesas con tu boca a Jesús por Señor, y crees en tu corazón que Dios le resucitó de entre los muertos, serás salvo… todo aquel que invoque el nombre del Señor será salvo».

¿Aceptarás humildemente el regalo de salvación esta temporada Navideña? Expresándote lo mejor que puedas, pide perdón a Jesús por tu pecado y pídele que te salve. Si estás dispuesto a volverte a Él, Jesús promete darte Su paz verdadera y duradera para consolar tu alma. «La paz os dejo, mi paz os doy; no os la doy como el mundo la da» (Juan 14:27).
