From the glow of lights to the laughter of loved ones, Christmas is a time of wonder. But beyond all the joy and beauty of the season shines the greatest wonder of all—God’s love shown through the gift of His Son, Jesus.

The Wonder of a Promise

The miracle of Christmas traces back to the very beginning, to the Garden of Eden where God created Adam and Eve. Everything was perfect, and God gave them just one rule: do not eat the fruit of a particular tree. Tragically, Adam and Eve chose to disobey God’s command and their decision brought sin and the curse of death into the world. They were sent out of the garden and separated from God’s holy presence.

But why does this matter? Their sinful nature and actions have passed from generation to generation, separating us from God, too. But God made a wonderful promise: one day, a Savior would come to defeat sin and death (Genesis 3:14-15).

The Wonder of a Baby

God did not forget His promise. After nearly 4,000 years, the time was finally fulfilled for the Savior to arrive. With wonder, we can imagine Jesus, the Son of God, leaving Heaven’s glory to be born as a helpless baby, wrapped in swaddling cloths, and laid in a manger (Luke 2:12). With amazement, we can hear the joy of the angel announcing His birth to nearby shepherds: “Behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord” (Luke 2:10-11).

The Wonder of God’s Love

Why would the Son of God come to earth? Jesus came because He loves you! He grew up and lived a perfect life to fulfill God’s promise to “save His people from their sins” (Matthew 1:21).

The Bible says we’ve all sinned and the consequence of sin is death and eternal separation from God (Romans 3:23, 6:23). But God provided the way for our sins to be forgiven so we can spend eternity with Him in Heaven someday!

We read that “God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Jesus willingly endured the punishment for your sins when He died on the cross. Can you even begin to imagine such wonderful love?

The Wonder of Salvation

“In Adam all die … in Christ [Jesus] shall all be made alive” (1 Corinthians 15:22). Three days after Jesus had died, He rose from the grave, victorious over sin and death. Now you have a choice—recognize your need for a Savior and turn to God, or reject His free gift of salvation.

How can you experience the wonder of God’s salvation and the joy of spending eternity in Heaven with Him? “If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9).

Has the Baby in the manger become your Savior? It’s only once you trust in Him that you can experience the true wonder of Christmas—eternal life and salvation through Jesus!
