Israel: Hebrew – “Yisrael; He will rule as God; a symbolic name of Jacob; also typically of his posterity; to prevail, have power (as a prince); strength, mighty, especially the Almighty.”
The nation of Israel began with the obedient response of one man to God’s magnanimous grace and call.
God called Abraham out of an idolatrous nation and family: “Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed” (Genesis 12:1-3). “Unto thy seed will I give this land [Canaan] (Genesis 12:5-7). (Genesis 17:8)
Abraham obeyed God: “By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went” (Hebrews 11:8). (Genesis 22:18)
God rewarded Abraham’s obedience and faith and made an everlasting covenant with him: “And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before Me, and be thou perfect. And I will make My covenant between Me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly” (Genesis 17:1-2); “My covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations” (Genesis 17:4); “Kings shall come out of thee” (v.6); “And I will establish My covenant between Me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God” (17:7-8). “And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed My voice” (Genesis 22:18). “Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness” (James 2:23).
“For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith” (Romans 4:13).
God made an everlasting covenant with Isaac: “And God said [to Abraham], Sarah thy wife shall bear thee a son indeed; and thou shalt call his name Isaac: and I will establish My covenant with him for an everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him” (Genesis 17:19-21; 21:1-14). “Sojourn in this land, and I will be with thee, and will bless thee; for unto thee, and unto thy seed, I will give all these countries, and I will perform the oath which I sware unto Abraham thy father” (Genesis 26:3-5). (Leviticus 26:42)
God made an everlasting covenant with Jacob [Isaac’s son]: “And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and He called his name Israel…. I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins; And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land” (Genesis 35:9-13). (Genesis 28:13-15)
Israel’s Messiah, the Savior of the world, would arise out of Jacob: “I shall see Him, but not now: I shall behold Him, but not nigh: there shall come a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel” (Numbers 24:17). (Hebrews 2:16; Matthew 1:1-17; Luke 3:23-34)
“For verily He [Jesus] took not on Him the nature of angels; but He took on Him the seed of Abraham. Wherefore in all things it behoved Him to be made like unto His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people” (Hebrews 2:16-17).
The Savior of the world would descend from the tribe of Judah, one of Jacob’s twelve sons: “The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto Him shall the gathering of the people be” (Genesis 49:10). (Micah 5:2; Matthew 1:1-17; Hebrews 7:14; Revelations 5:5)
Israel’s Saviour would be the eternal Son of God incarnated: “Thou art My Son; this day have I begotten Thee” (Psalm 2:7); “Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and ye perish from the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in Him” (Psalm 2:12); “Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God” (Daniel 3:25). (Proverbs 30:4; Isaiah 7:14; 9:6; Micah 5:2; Psalm 110:1; Genesis 1:26)
The Son of God would be incarnated through the Spirit of God and a Jewish virgin: “Therefore the Lord Himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel [God with us]” (Isaiah 7:14); “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace” (Isaiah 9:6-7). (Micah 5:2; Luke 1:26-38; Daniel 7:13-14)
“Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day: and he saw it, and was glad” (John 8:56).
Jesus said: “Before Abraham was, I AM” (John 8:58).

The sinless Son of God, incarnated through Israel, is God’s offering for sin: “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all” (Isaiah 53:5-6); He will “make reconciliation for iniquity” (Daniel 9:24). We are redeemed “with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot” (1 Peter 1:18-19). Christ “loved us, and washed us from our sins in His own blood” (Revelation 1:5). (Isaiah 53; Daniel 9:24-26; Ephesians 1:7).
A holy remnant of Israel shall be saved, the new wine in the cluster, through faith in the Son of God: “Thus saith the LORD, As the new wine is found in the cluster, and one saith, Destroy it not; for a blessing is in it: so will I do for My servants’ sakes, that I may not destroy them all” (Isaiah 65:8). (Isaiah 49:6; 10:20; Jeremiah 31:7; Micah 2:12; Zephaniah 3:13; Zechariah 8:12; Romans 2:23-29; 9:27; 11:5)
Through Israel’s Redeemer, God would also mediate salvation to the Gentiles: “And He said, It is a light thing that Thou shouldest be My Servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give Thee for a light to the Gentiles, that Thou mayest be My salvation unto the end of the earth” (Isaiah 49:6); (Isaiah 9:2; 11:10; 42:1, 6-7; 52:14-15; 65:1; Romans 3:20-23; Acts 15:7-10)
“And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the heathen through faith, preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed” (Galatians 3:8). (Genesis 22:18)
“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith” (Galatians 3:13-14).

A new covenant for the repentant Jew and Gentile: “Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which My covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put My law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be My people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the LORD: for they shall all know Me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more” (Jeremiah 31:31-34). “Thus saith the LORD, the Redeemer of Israel, and His Holy One, to Him whom man despiseth, to Him whom the nation abhorreth…. Thus saith the LORD, In an acceptable time have I heard Thee, and in a day of salvation have I helped Thee: and I will preserve Thee, and give Thee for a covenant of the people, to establish the earth” (Isaiah 49:7-8). “I the LORD have called Thee in righteousness, and will … give Thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house” (Isaiah 42:6-7). (Isaiah 55:3; 61:8; Jeremiah 32:40)
“Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham” (Galatians 3:7).
“So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham” (Galatians 3:9).
“He [Abraham] staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God…. And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on Him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification” (Romans 4:20-25, 11).
As God called Abraham, He called Israel: “Hearken unto Me, O Jacob and Israel, My called; I am He; I am the first, I also am the last” (Isaiah 48:12).
God created Israel for His glory and praise: “For I have created him for My glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him” (Isaiah 43:7); “This people have I formed for Myself; they shall shew forth My praise” (Isaiah 43:21). (Isaiah 43:15; 44:21-24; 45:11; 49:3)
Israel is a special treasure above all nations: “For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto Himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth” (Deuteronomy 7:6). (Exodus 19:5-6; Psalm 135:4)
Israel was chosen to be a witness and servant of the LORD: “Ye are My witnesses, saith the LORD, and My servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe Me, and understand that I am He: before Me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after Me” (Isaiah 43:10, 12). (Isaiah 41:8; 44:21; 49:3)
Israel to become a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation: “Now therefore, if ye will obey My voice indeed, and keep My covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto Me above all people: for all the earth is Mine: And ye shall be unto Me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation” (Exodus 19:5–6). (Isaiah 61:6)
“For Thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by Thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth” (Revelation 5:9-10; 1:5-6; 20:6).
God will destroy Israel’s enemies: “And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it” (Zechariah 12:2-3). (Isaiah 29:7; 54:15; Zechariah 12:8-9; Revelation 19:11-21; 20:7-10)
Israel will rule over her oppressors: “And thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies” (Genesis 22:17). “All they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet” (Isaiah 60:14). (Numbers 24:8; Isaiah 14:1-2; 60)
Israel is eternal: “But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end” (Isaiah 45:17).
Palestine is Israel’s heritage from the LORD: “And gave their land for an heritage, an heritage unto Israel His people” (Psalm 135:12).
God made an everlasting Palestinian covenant with Israel. God displaced the Gentile nations and planted Israel. Her Messianic borders will extend beyond present day boundaries: “Which covenant He made with Abraham, and His oath unto Isaac; And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant: Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance” (Psalm 105:6-12); “They shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of My planting, the work of My hands, that I may be glorified” (Isaiah 60:21). “For He remembered His holy promise…. And gave them the lands of the heathen: and they inherited the labour of the people; That they might observe His statutes and keep His laws” (Psalm 105:42-45).
Israel’s future: “For the LORD shall comfort Zion: He will comfort all her waste places; and He will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD; joy and gladness shall be found therein, thanksgiving, and the voice of melody” (Isaiah 51:3). (Isaiah 61:7-9; 65:19; Revelation 21)
“And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise” (Galatians 3:29).
“For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon Him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:10-13).
“He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before My Father, and before His angels” (Revelation 3:5).
The eternal future of the repentant Jew and Gentile: “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth…. And I John saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away” (Revelation 21:1-4).
“He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be My son” (Revelation 21:7). “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name” (John 1:12).
“And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it. And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof. And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it. And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb’s book of life” (Revelation 21:22-24, 26-27).
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
“For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature” (Galatians 6:15).
“Many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 8:11).
