Bad or Good?
Many people think they will reach Heaven if the good they have done outweighs the bad. Drag the slider to match your life.
You are what people call a “hard-core” sinner. In fact, you probably take great pride in sharing stories from your rap sheet with others.
You are what people call a “major” sinner. The bad decisions in your life far outweigh the good, but there might be a glimmer of hope for you because of the few church services you sat through.
You are what people call a “moderate” sinner. Sure, you’ve made some bad decisions (especially during some of the earlier rebellious years of your life), but you’ve matured a lot since.
You are what people call an “almost-good” person. You’ve spent your life trying to do enough good deeds to outweigh the bad, and you’ve almost made it. If anything, you deserve an A for effort.
You are what people call an “ok” person. Sure, you’ve made some mistakes, but you’ve also kept enough of the Ten Commandments to try to even things out. Your day-to-day life might look like a balancing act—teetering back and forth between committing a sin and then having to do a good deed to make up for it.
You are what people call a “good” person. You’re not a saint by any means, but you’re also not as bad as some of the other people that you know. By comparison to others, you’re alright.
You are what people call a “try-hard”. The good deeds in your life are clearly visible to others, and you’re probably secretly hoping that you’ve done enough good to make up for the mistakes in your past.
You are what people call a “goody two-shoes”. You rarely mess up, but when you do, you try to brush it under the rug so that no one will notice and think that you are less than perfect.
You are what people call a “saint”. You are at church almost every time the doors are open and you devote yourself to serving others. If admittance into Heaven was as simple as a checklist of good deeds, you’d have every requirement triple-checked off.
Do you really get to Heaven if the good deeds in your life outweigh the bad?
According to the Bible, even if your box of good deeds far outweighs your sins, God will still tell you, “Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting” (Daniel 5:27).
You see, God is completely holy and cannot allow any sin to enter Heaven. And that’s a problem for every one of us! Every person, from the “hard-core” hourly sinner to the “saint” who disobeyed God once, has fallen short of God’s standard of perfection. We all measure up as sinners, separated from God.
“All have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
“All our righteousnesses [good deeds] are as filthy rags” (Isaiah 64:6).
God desires to have a relationship with you. He loves you so much that He has made a way for your sins to be erased.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
“But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).
God sent His Son, Jesus, to the earth and He lived a perfectly sinless life. Yet, Jesus was sent to the cross where He paid the punishment for your sins and died. After three days, Jesus rose from the grave, proving that He conquered sin and is a living Savior.
“The blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanseth us from all sin” (1 John 1:7).
“Christ [Jesus] also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God” (1 Peter 3:18).
Because of what Jesus has done, if you turn to God in repentance and trust Jesus as your Savior, you will be saved. It’s as simple as that!
No amount of good deeds can cover up your dark sins. Jesus did all of the work required for your salvation when He died on the cross and rose again.
Jesus is the only One who can save you and take away your heavy load of sin. Won’t you repent (agree with God that you are a sinner) and put your trust in Jesus now?
“God … now commandeth all men every where to repent” (Acts 17:30).
“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23).
“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
“If thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9-10).
