Hallelujah (pronounced hal·le·lu·yah) is an emotional expression of reverence and praise unto the Lord our God. It is listed 4 times in the KJV Bible as Allelujah (pronounced al-le-LOO-yah) but carries the same meaning. Although not in the actual word form itself, but in its true meaning, we find the words “praise the Lord” listed all throughout the Bible. It is first mentioned in Genesis 29:35 and concludes in Revelation 19:6 as Allelujah. It is an internationally used word that is said to be understood, though with some slightly different dialects or spellings, in any language. Being an internationally used word is fitting because Jesus died for the whole world. So, all the world should praise His Holy Name!

But sadly, some would question: “with all the evil in the world, why should God be praised?”

The fact is, He is worthy of our praise because He was willing to leave Heaven and come to this wicked world to die for our sins! He knew that mankind had broken His law and the wages of our sin was death. This sin nature was passed down to us from Adam’s original sin in the Garden of Eden. Jesus’ death on the cross was the propitiation or payment of our sin debt of death that was required by God’s law. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23). He is worthy to be praised for not allowing us to just die in our sins without offering hope. He offered us the free gift of salvation, by grace through faith!

For His gift of love, I say, Hallelujah!

He is worthy to be praised for His promise of everlasting life for all who believe. Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life (John 5:24). When a sinner is saved, this does not mean they have attained sinless perfection, but that they are sealed with a promise. That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise (Ephesians 1:12-13). When a person who is saved tries to commit the same sins they once did, they will feel conviction from the Holy Spirit that now abides within their heart. They also now have an Advocate to plead their case before the Heavenly Father. My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous (1 John 2:1).

For His mercy and grace, I say, Hallelujah!

He is worthy to be praised for the place He’s gone to prepare for us and His promise to return one day for us. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also (John 14:2-3). The book of Revelation gives greater detail of what a glorious place it will be. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away (Revelation 21:3-4).

For His preparation of such a place, I say, Hallelujah!

If any sinner will admit their sinful condition and be willing to repent and turn to the Lord, they can be saved! This must be a heart decision and not just merely words repeated by our mouths. It is so simple that even a child can understand it, and yet so deep that it cannot be exhausted. It is so exclusive that only those who truly repent and believe can obtain it, but so inclusive that “whosoever will” can receive it!

For His plan of salvation, I say, Hallelujah!

If you would only trust Him in faith believing and be willing to repent and call upon His name, you too will understand what the Hallelujahs are truly about!

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10:13).
