There is a question most people don’t think about …
If you died today, would you go to heaven or hell?
This is the most important question about your eternal life. When parents die, they usually leave something behind for their children as an inheritance—keepsakes, money, etc. God Says “A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children” (Proverbs 13:22).
God has also provided for an inheritance for us, but first we must become His sons and daughters. “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name” (John 1:12).
But How Do We Do That?
First, it’s important to know God loves you and cares about your life. “And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him” (1 John 4:16). There is HOPE, no matter what condition your life is in, even if your life is defined by a lack of peace, stress, loss, anxiety, depression, loneliness, fear, alcoholism, drugs, mental health, shame, poverty, divorce etc. “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? Hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise Him, Who is the health of my countenance, and my God” (Psalm 42:11).
But We Have A Problem—We are sinners in need of a Saviour!
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). God hates sin, and it separates us from Him. “But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid His face from you, that He will not hear” (Isaiah 59:2).
Your sin has consequences. “For the wages of sin is death [Hell]” (Romans 6:23a). Eternity in HELL is real! It’s Eternal FIRE, Darkness and Separation from God: “The abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers [adultery, lust], and sorcerers [enchanter, conjurer, magician], and idolaters [pagan, worship idols], and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone” (Revelation 21:8). Have you lied, stolen, had sex outside of marriage, etc.? Then YOU are on this list!
BUT THERE’S A WAY OUT!
God sent His Son so we could be forgiven of our sins and receive our inheritance: “But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23b). Jesus, God in the flesh, went to the cross where God punished Him for our sins—so we could believe in Him and be forgiven. “Christ died for our sins … was buried, and … rose again the third day according to the scriptures” (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). “By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:2).
God Keeps His Promises
“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). So we’re saved through His death, burial and resurrection only. We’re not good enough on our own to earn Heaven. Most people will tell you “just be a good person,” “follow the Golden Rule, Ten Commandments, Religious Book,” etc. As you read earlier, breaking God’s law brings death (Hell). No matter how much good you do, it’s NEVER enough.
Getting into Heaven is a work God does—not us. You must put your faith and trust in what He did for you on the cross! Not in yourself, position, reputation or perceived holiness.
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).
“Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me” ( John 14:6).
Decide To Put your trust in God’s sacrifice for sin!
Turn away from a life of following sin! Follow Christ with all your heart and mean it! This is called repentance and He will save you and help you. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved” (Romans 10:9).
God sees our heart: “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:10).
Now is the time to be saved, not later! “Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation” ( 2 Corinthians 6:2).
Please Pray Now
In your own words, please pray and ask God to save you. Admit you are a sinner that needs to be saved and put your trust in Jesus—what He did for you through His death, burial and resurrection. He took the punishment for sins that you deserved. He will hear you and wash away your sins forever.
Follow Up
If you truly made a decision for Christ, you are saved. You become renewed on the inside. “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). You will have a new desire to please Him and follow His Word. Read His Bible daily and pray, sharing your needs and love for Him. Find a local church and let the pastor know what you have done, and they will help you grow in the Lord and get baptized. Tell others what you have done, and invite them to be saved as well!
