The story of the Taj Mahal demonstrates the magnitude of undying love and passion. This fairy tale began when Prince Shah Jahan saw the most stunning beautiful and awesome girl while walking through the Bazaar of Agra, India. After five years, they married and began their monumental story of love.

Shah Jahan was born in 1592 in India. He was a warrior, a man of extraordinary brilliance, and an icon of art. In honor of his numerous victories, he was known as “The King of the World.” Shah Jahan became the Mughal Emperor in 1628.

Shah Jahan titled his wife “Mumtaz mahal” or “the chosen one of the palace.” A rarely-found combination of elegance and extravagance, she was her husband’s best friend, too. Their hearts were knit together in unequivocal love.

Unfortunately, the fairy tale came to an end. While giving birth to her fourteenth child, she suffered complications and died. According to tradition, before dying she obtained a promise from Shah Jahan that he would build a monument and show the world how much he loved her. Shah Jahan became restless until he found a solution to fulfill his wife’s last wish. He brought architects and craftsmen and painters from all over Central Asia and planned for the monument with absolute perfection. Wagon loads of jewels and precious stones were brought in to decorate the mausoleum. It required 1,000 elephants to transport the materials to the site. The Taj Mahal was built entirely of white marble. 20,000 laborers worked day and night to construct it. After 22 long years, the Taj Mahal was completed in 1648. Within the dome was laid the jewel-embossed tomb of the queen. Shah Jahan was buried beside his beloved Mumtaz. The Taj Mahal is one of the seven wonders of the world, seen by 40,000 visitors daily.

There is another eternal love story. God, in His infinite love, planned in eternity past to give the very best gift to mankind. This gift is His own beloved Son, Jesus. The Bible says, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16). How can you receive this free gift?

Admit to God that you are a sinner. When we disobey the Lord, we sin. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). The result of sin is spiritual death and eternal separation from God. “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23). Admitting that you are a sinner, separated from God, is the first step of repentance, that is, turning from sin and turning to God.

Believe in Jesus Christ as God’s Son and receive His gift of forgiveness from sin. God loves each of us. Through Jesus’ death on the cross, God provided salvation for all who repent and believe in Jesus.

Confess your faith in Jesus as Savior and Lord. “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9).

If you want to receive the free gift of salvation and spend eternity with the Lord in Heaven, talk with God, thanking Him for His gift and trusting Jesus as your Savior. Your prayer may sound something like this:

Dear Lord, I am a sinner and I need forgiveness. I believe that Jesus Christ shed His precious blood and died for my sins on the cross, and then rose again from the grave. I now receive your gift of forgiveness and  invite Christ to come into my life as my Lord and Savior. Amen.
