Seeing, hearing, touching, tasting, smelling—everyday, we use our senses and our minds to learn more about ourselves and the world around us. By using our senses, we can know about the physical world that surrounds us. But what about spiritual matters? Can we know these things also?
We can know God
“Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth” (Psalm 46:10).
“And this is life eternal, that they might know Thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent” (John 17:3).
“I am the Good Shepherd, and know My sheep, and am known of Mine” (John 10:14).
We can know that we are sinners
“How many are mine iniquities and sins? make me to know my transgression and my sin” (Job 13:23).
“O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from Thee” (Psalm 69:5).
“Know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the Lord thy God, and that My fear is not in thee, saith the Lord God of hosts” (Jeremiah 2:19).
“Now we know that what things soever the law [10 commandments, etc.] saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in His sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin” (Romans 3:19,20).
We can know the way of salvation
“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32).
“Therefore let all … know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ” (Acts 2:36).
“And ye know that He was manifested to take
away our sins; and in Him is no sin” (1 John 3:5).
“Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this Man [Jesus Christ] is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins. And by Him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses” (Acts 13:38,39).
We can know that we are saved
“My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand” (John 10:27,28).
“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that
ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God” (1 John 5:13).
“For I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep that which
I have committed unto Him against that day”
(2 Timothy 1:12).
What wondrous blessings overflow,
When we can truly say, “I know”—
I know in whom I have believed,
I know the One I have received
I know His blood avails for me,
I know that I was blind, but see
I know that my Redeemer lives,
I know the gift He freely gives,
I know He’ll keep me to the end,
I know He’s my unfailing Friend,
I know He’s coming in the sky,
I know the time is drawing nigh.
