A Question that Demands an Answer

Are you right with God? That is quite a sobering question, one you may have never been asked nor thought of before. Perhaps you didn’t realize that there was something wrong between you and God, or maybe you have been putting off answering this question because you are afraid of the answer.

My friend, if you are not right with God, wouldn’t you want to know? Furthermore, wouldn’t you like to know how to be made right with God? The answers to these questions can be found inside this brief pamphlet. These answers, however, will require that you take an honest look at yourself in light of the Bible, the Word of God. The truth is often harder to deal with than a lie, but dealing with the truth is the only option that will help you. Are you right with God? Let’s take a look at what the Bible says and see...

What is Wrong?

The Bible speaks plainly about what has caused mankind’s relationship with God to be broken—sin. The Bible exclaims in Isaiah 64:7, “There is none that calleth upon Thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of Thee: for Thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us, because of our iniquities [sins].” It is sin that has caused God to “hide his face,” to separate Himself from man. Why? Because God is holy: “Exalt the Lord our God, and worship at His holy hill; for the Lord our God is holy” (Psalm 99:9). Since God is holy—totally, absolutely, and completely without sin, sin is a gross and intolerable offence, an insult to His Character, and a mar of His Person.

What is Sin?

1 John 3:4 says that, “Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.” You sin when you break God’s law, His commandments. Exodus 20 lists the Ten Commandments of God’s moral law:

1. Have no other gods.

2. Do not create graven images.

3. Do not use God’s Name in vain [as profanity].

4. Honor the Sabbath.

5. Honor your parents.

6. Don’t murder.

7. Don’t commit adultery.

8. Don’t steal.

9. Don’t bear false witness [lie].

10. Don’t covet [desire what you don’t have].

Am I a Sinner?

Have you broken God’s law?

Have you ever told a lie?

Have you ever stolen anything?

Have you ever committed adultery?

“But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart” (Matthew 5:28). If you have had lustful thoughts when looking at a member of the opposite gender who is not your spouse—Jesus declares that you are as guilty of adultery as if you had done the act!

Have you used God’s name in vain, as a cuss word?

Have you ever disobeyed or dishonored
your parents?

If you have broken any one of these commandments, you are a sinner. Furthermore, James 2:10 says, “For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.”

So if you keep all His laws except one, you are, in God’s sight, guilty of breaking them all!

The Bible says in Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” also in Romans 3:10, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.”

If you’ll be honest with yourself, you will see that you, along with all of humanity, have broken God’s law—“For all have sinned.” To deny your sinfulness would be calling God a liar—1 John 1:10, “If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him [God] a liar.”

What Do I Do Now?

The whole purpose of the law is given in Galatians 3:24, “Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified [made innocent] by faith.” The law was never meant to make you righteous [innocent], but to show your guilt so that you might trust, not in your own merits or works, but in the merits of Jesus Christ in order to be judged innocent of your sins and restored to God!

Sin requires a payment. Romans 6:23a says, “For the wages of sin is death…” This payment was made for you when Christ freely gave His life on the cross. Ephesians 1:7 says, “In whom [Christ] we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.” It was Christ who offered His blood as the ransom, the payment required to provide you with freedom from the penalty of sin (eternal punishment in the Lake of Fire, Rev. 21:8) and the forgiveness of sins required to restore you into a right relationship with God.

Do you admit that you are a sinner?

Is the Holy Spirit convicting you of your sins and convincing you of your need for Jesus Christ?

Do you want to be free from the guilt and
penalty of your sins and restored into
a right relationship with God?

Then you must as Jesus says in Mark 1:15, “Repent ye, and believe the gospel.”

Choosing Christ will be costly! It requires that you forsake, or turn from your sinful life [repentance] and believe [trust] in Jesus and what He achieved for you on the cross!

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). Call out to Jesus right now, asking Him in faith to forgive you and restore you—for only He can! “I [Christ] am the way, the truth, and the life, no man cometh unto the Father but by Me” (John 14:6).

In Christ, you have the promise of an abundant life now and of eternal life in Heaven, “The gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23b)!
