Nearly everyone is familiar with the name “Jesus”—from church services, to people stuck in traffic using it as a curse word, to baby Jesus decorating hundreds of towns during the adored Christmas holiday.

And since today’s culture is saturated with the prevalent idea of “I have my truth, and you have yours,” many carry around a personalized view of Jesus. Thus most people collect their understanding of Jesus through bumper stickers, religious hypocrites, and TV shows—not through diligent study of the Scriptures.

Consequently, many people mistakenly presume that they already have the whole “Jesus thing” figured out. They unwittingly blend a slew of past experiences and preconceived notions into a “Jesus-purée” of sorts. And if what comes out tastes a little too tart, they sweeten it by adding more sugary-sounding ideas to the mixture.

In the end, everyone is walking around with conflicting views of Jesus—and therein lies the problem.

What Does the Bible Have to Say About Jesus?

“So what’s the problem,” you might ask? The Bible explicitly cautions against entertaining false notions about Jesus.1 And the Bible unmistakably teaches that there is only one Christ, the biblical Christ, who alone can save from eternal destruction.

What you believe about Jesus has severe eternal consequences. So with that said, how does your Jesus look? Not sure? Here’s a chart that outlines what we mean.

Which Jesus is Your Jesus?

For Those Who Side With Jesus B

Maybe you call yourself non-religious. You may very well be reading this tract with sheer indifference. Still, dear friend, your makeshift Jesus sadly betrays that notion. You’ve willfully chosen to follow an entirely unbiblical Christ, a mere figment of your imagination that cannot save. Simply put, ‘Jesus B’ is a fake Jesus, and following such is the essence of idolatry.2 You’ve concocted a false view of Christ that is utterly foreign to the Bible. You’ve conjured up an idol that cannot hear, see, or speak.

Dear friend, this isn’t a case of indifference but of pure rebellion! You ask how? Imagine a stranger makes a fake social media account with your name & face on it—broadcasting misinformation about you to the public. How would you feel if this person spends his entire life ruining your reputation? Is this not deliberate defamation of character? Isn’t such a person sad at best and criminal at worst?

The same goes for you. By holding to this phony view of Christ, you mock the King of Kings. This is rebellion, indeed.

How long will you deceive yourself? You’ve spent how many years sporting this false Jesus to others? How many decades have you duped yourself into thinking that your makeshift Jesus is the real Jesus?

Stop kidding yourself—do you not realize that this make-believe Jesus whom you follow is none other than yourself? Does not your false Jesus serve to cater to your sinful lusts? Does he not accommodate you in your worldly ambitions? Does he not make you feel more comfortable in your sins as you recklessly draw closer to the cliffs of eternal ruin?

Dear friend, the Bible warns that: “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.” 3 “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” 4 On judgment day, God’s justice will find you guilty of sin! And “the wages of sin is death” 5, which means eternal hell. You will be cast into outer darkness where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.6 There you will suffer under the fiery torments of God’s wrath forever.

Your only hope of escaping this dreadful judgment is to abandon this distorted view of Jesus and put your faith in the real One. Believe that the true Jesus died on the cross, was buried, and on the third day rose from the dead so that your sins could be forgiven. Believe that the true Jesus fully absorbed the hellish wrath for sinners on the cross and rose from the dead to give those who trust in Him eternal life.

Your Response?

Dear friend, be saved from this perverse generation! “Flee from the wrath to come.” 7 Humble yourself! Yield your steeled heart to the Lord. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved.” 8

For Those Who “Just Believe” in Jesus

Maybe you’re not irreligious, and would say that you believe in Christ. Well, does the Jesus you worship more resemble column B than A? Is He more characterized by the whims of society? More acceptable to modern culture? If so, here is something you must seriously consider.

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity” 9

What is the pivotal reason for why Jesus will reject many so-called “Christians”?

“I Never Knew You”

Friend, this may be you at the moment. Perhaps the reason you’re confiding in a fictitious Christ is that you never really knew the real One. But most importantly, He doesn’t know you. You may have grown up in church, professed faith in Jesus, led bible studies, or gone on multiple “missions” trips. But if your Jesus doesn’t match the Jesus of the Bible, your profession of faith is worthless.

“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?” 10

Friend, if you are trusting in a false Christ, you are in a terrible state and on the way to a terrible doom!

Your Response?

Repent of your idolatrous Jesus this very hour. Stop deceiving your soul! Truly surrender to the biblical Christ. Search the Scriptures to discover the real Jesus. And follow Him till the day you die!

“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” 11
