I have two questions for you. Two questions that can change your life forever!
1. What is the purpose of life?
2. If you died today, where would you go?
I’m not sure where you’re at with God. But I do know this, God loves you and He desires for you to know the answers to those two questions above. I would simply ask you to read with an open heart.
I truly believe this message is in your hands today because God loves you and wants you to know Him. The following will go over 4 main points that will answer these questions and an extra one for those who respond to what God has done. Your life can be changed if you keep an open heart!
1. God made you to be in an experiential, personal, relationship with Him!
God is clearly revealed amidst creation. No one would logically look at a building and say that it randomly “poofed” and appeared out of nowhere with no builder. Creation has a Creator—that Creator is God.
God made you. He made you to be in an experiential relationship with Himself. He made you to be able to experience Him and His creation. He made you to be in partnership with Him, bringing His Kingdom to the world! God made you, because He loves you.
2. The problem: Sin has separated you from having a relationship with God and leads you to death.
When God created the first humans there was no evil, sickness, suffering, violence, hatred, depression, abuse, anxiety—none of it. They lived in paradise with God.
Because God is love, He gave humans (His prized creation) free will. God never wanted to make robots who were just pieces to a game. God knows forcing someone to do something against their will is not love. Because God is love, He does not force.
In their free will, humans chose to turn against God and disobey Him. They chose to try to live life without Him and this is why we see evil in the world. It is not God’s doing why there is evil, this evil is a result of sin.
Sin hurts you and sin hurts other people. Sin appears in selfish actions (such as lying, stealing, violence, abuse, gossip, greed, anger, hate, addictions, and lust) but sin is more than just the actions.
Sin is the brokenness behind the actions. It is the void that is trying to be filled by anything that is not God. Without God, the void remains until the end.
Romans 6:23a For the wages of sin is death.
Sin is serious to a holy, righteous, and just God. Just as a just judge would punish a wicked crime, so sin must be punished for its evil. God must bring justice to that which is evil. What is the ultimate punishment for sin? Eternity in Hell. Hell is a real place of darkness, torment and suffering that one will go to after they die if they do not turn to the solution that God gave us.
Hebrews 9:27 As it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.
Revelation 21:8 But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fiire and brimstone, which is the second death.
Sin separates you from having a relationship with God. Sin hurts you and hurts others. Sin leads you to death. But, there is an answer…
3. God loves you so much He gave a solution to fix the problem, to bring you back to a relationship with God and give you eternal life!
God loves us so much that He sent His Son Jesus Christ to come save us! Jesus came to earth and lived fully as God, yet fully as man. Jesus became like us in order to redeem us. When Jesus was around thirty years old He got baptized and the Holy Spirit came upon Him. It was not until then that He began His supernatural, world-changing ministry. Why is this important? Because the same Holy Spirit that was with Jesus—that empowered Him to fulfill His mission—is the same Holy Spirit that comes to live inside those who put their faith in Jesus!
Jesus lived the perfect life. He never sinned. He enjoyed a perfect relationship with God the Father. He performed miracles. He healed hearts. He went about doing good, healing all that were oppressed. He loved people!
Yet, although He did nothing wrong, Jesus was sentenced to death. But Jesus knew what He was doing. He knew no one could truly take His life. He freely gave His life for us, dying on the cross.
But Jesus didn’t stay dead! Death couldn’t defeat His perfect love and sacrifice. Three days later, He rose from the dead! He is alive today!
Jesus took the punishment for our sin on Himself. All of it! We deserve the death penalty, because all have sinned, but Jesus chose to take out place. He never did anything wrong. But since He loves us so much, He died for us!
He took all your sin upon Himself:
• That you could have love, peace, joy and hope that no one can take away from you!
• That you could be forgiven, being made righteous and clean before God!
• That you would not perish but have everlasting life with God!
2 Corinthians 5:21 For He [The Father] made Him [Jesus] who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
Ephesians 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.
Through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus your purpose is restored—to be in a personal relationship with God, living free from the corruption of the world and bringing God’s Kingdom (His love, power, truth, life) to the world through your life. When having a relationship with God you become a world-changer through your words and works!
Ephesians 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
4. There is something we must do to be included in the solution God gave us!
You cannot be saved by your “good works” or your good outweighing your bad. All have sinned and done evil—you can only be saved by putting your faith in the finished work of Jesus. Place your trust and belief in Jesus Christ alone! Believe in who He is and what He did on the cross. That Jesus lived a sinless, perfect life and died for your sin, taking it upon Himself, then three days later He rose from the dead: defeating sin, death, and evil.
There is no other religion, belief system, god, or anything else that can save you. Jesus is the Truth. You cannot have eternal life except through Him and Him alone.
John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
Believing in Jesus is more than simply an acknowledgment of facts. True belief is a choice to trust in Him and repent. To be saved, we repent and trust in the finished work of Jesus. To repent is to choose to turn away from sin and turn towards a new life following Jesus. You don’t change on your own—you enter into a relationship with God, and He will help you!
You are entering into a relationship with God where you are choosing to follow His ways, getting to know Him and letting Him guide you going forward for the rest of your life! This is not a one time decision but a lifelong choice. And it’s so worth it!
Matthew 16:24-26 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will fiind it. For what profiit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”
I encourage you to respond to Jesus today! Choose to truly turn away from sin and turn to life in Him! Ask God to forgive you and help you to follow Him. If you really mean it God will give you a new heart, make you clean, and wash away all your sin by the blood of Jesus. God will give you eternal life!
Romans 10:13 For “whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Additionally, If you make this decision to say “YES” to Jesus, get water baptized as soon as possible. In baptism you bury the old life, and rise new with Christ!
Romans 6:4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
When we put our trust in Jesus we become a “new creation” and receive the Holy Spirit as the one who empowers us to walk this life out!
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
5. If you have made the decision to say “YES” to Jesus:
Continue in getting to know Him through spending time in prayer and reading your Bible and follow what you read—the book of Matthew is a great place to start!
Find a community of believers who are pursuing a life of following Jesus! We are a family, brothers and sisters in Christ who need each other.
Spread the love of God by word and deed. Share Jesus with family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and strangers! Everyone needs Him!
Mark 16:15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel [good news of Jesus] to every creature.”
Back to those two questions:
What is the purpose of life? The purpose of life is to experientially know God and to spread His love, truth and life to the world!
If you died today, where would you go? Where you would go depends on YOUR choice. To those who reject Jesus: eternity in Hell and the absence of God’s comforting love for all eternity. But to those who receive His free gift of salvation and turn to follow Him alone: eternal life in Heaven, experiencing peace, love and joy in the presence of God!
This is good news!
Will you begin your new life with Jesus? I hope you now have made the choice to know Him and choose to continually grow in knowing Him. I pray you decide to follow Him. And I’d love to be there for you.
