Everyone is in search of love.
The world revolves around it. It’s the theme of countless movies, books, magazines, and songs. The heartbeat of every human is to love and be loved.
But what love means to you may be different than what it means to someone else. Does it mean being nice to others? Is it something you fall into? Is it sensual pleasure? A mix of all of those? Those are all ideas that come from the world. The Bible tells us that God is love (1 John 4:8).
So how does God explain true love to us?
God says, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends” (John 15:13). That is exactly what God’s Son, Jesus Christ, did for us! After He died for us, He rose from the dead three days later, proving He has the victory!
God created each one of us to have and experience a relationship with Himself, the Creator of the universe. But from the first time we ever sinned, we rejected God‘s perfect love for us and destroyed our connection with Him. Every one of us has sinned (Romans 3:23). We are helpless to restore our relationship with a holy Creator by our own efforts. Because of our rebellion against God, we have put ourselves on the path to hell, a place that wasn’t created for people (Matthew 25:41).
What did God do about it?
“In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation [sacrifice] for our sins” (1 John 4:9-10).
Jesus left the perfection of heaven and came to this sin-filled earth. He lived the perfect life that we never could and died a horrible death to take the punishment for all mankind’s sin.
By paying what we owed, Jesus made a way for us to have a relationship with God again!
Jesus is the only way back to God (John 14:6). When we make a decision to be honest with God about our own sin and to trust in Him, we will be saved! Salvation is a free gift from God to everyone that believes in Him (Acts 16:31).
While salvation is free to us, it wasn’t free to God. It cost Him everything to make it possible, but He did it willingly because that’s how much you’re worth to God.
