There are several illustrations in the Bible regarding doors. Let’s explore the Biblical importance and lessons we can learn about doors.

Of pivotal and great importance is who opens or closes the door. The door was open for anyone who wished to believe Noah’s warnings. In the end, God closed the door, not Noah. God’s mercy is great, but man’s disobedience will end in doom.

The saving factor of the Israelites in Egypt was connected to the door of each household. The Passover occurred when the Israelites put blood on the top and sides of the door of each household. No harm came to those who followed the instructions concerning the doors.

In John 10:7-9, Jesus says, “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved.”

In Matthew 7:7-8, Jesus says, “Knock, and it [the door] will be opened to you.”

Luke 13:24 says, “Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I say to you, will seek to enter and will not be able.” The correct entrance to Heaven is the “narrow door.” What is this narrow door we’re speaking about? The answer is having a saving relationship with Jesus.

Matthew 25:1-13 is the parable of the ten virgins. Five were wise and five were foolish. Five were ready to go to the wedding banquet and five were not. The wise virgins entered the banquet and the door was closed behind them. The five foolish virgins requested that the door be opened, but it could not be opened after it was shut. When they asked for the door to be opened, they heard the reply, “Assuredly, I [Jesus] say to you, I do not know you.” Keep watch, because you do not know the hour of your death or the day Jesus will return.

We are at the conclusion of this subject of doors. The only way to salvation, getting saved, being converted, or getting into heaven can be summed up in the message recorded in Revelation 3:20,

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.”

Notice that the individual has to open the door. Jesus’ side of the door has no handle. If you desire this relationship with Jesus, talk with Him today.

You might pray something like this:

“Jesus, I thank you that you have made the way for me to enter Heaven. I believe that you are the Son of God, who died for my sins and rose again from the dead. Forgive my sins, and help me to live a life that is pleasing to you.” 

The simple repeating of these words does not save you. How honest and sincere are you about being remorseful about your sins? How honest and sincere are you about asking Jesus to forgive you of your sins? How honest and sincere are you about making Jesus the master of your life? I urgently ask you to open the door and invite Jesus into your life. If you prayed this honestly and sincerely—welcome, we are brothers and sisters in Christ!
