The Beast Of Eternity
It’s coming for you!
Ready or not, the beast will soon have you in its grasp. What kind of beast is this?
Eternity. Life is like a passing shadow. Sooner or later, you will step out of this life, never to return. The Bible says, “…it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment” (Hebrews 9:27). According to the Bible, there are two places where the souls of mankind will abide after this life is past: Heaven or Hell.
Heaven is a place of rest, joy, and the presence of God Almighty (Hebrews 12:22-24). Hell is a place of torment, pain, and horrible solitude (Revelation 20:10,14-15).
This world is littered with the inventive weaponry of desperate people who have sought to ward off the beast of eternity by their own merits. Some trusted in works. Some trusted in religions. Some have convinced themselves that if they simply ignore it, it will cease to exist. The Bible says, “There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 16:25).
Try as we might, all our efforts to attain Heaven are doomed to failure. The cause for this inability is sin. The word “sin” literally means to miss the mark.
The God of the Bible has set the standard of holiness. He is so holy and just that even the smallest sin cannot come into his presence in Heaven. He commands us: “Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the Lord your God” (Leviticus 20:7).
The problem is simple: no one is capable of doing that on their own. The Bible says, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one” (Romans 3:10-12). On our own, we are dead meat before the beast of eternity. Eternal punishment is what we deserve; and without the intervention of God, it is what we will get.
The Beast Can Be Slain
Fortunately, the God of the Bible (the only God in existence [Isaiah 44:8]) loves us and has prepared a way for us to obtain an eternal home in Heaven. The Bible says, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). God knows that the penalty for sin must be satisfied. He knows that we can’t satisfy it on our own. God sent his son Jesus Christ to take our place.
The Bible says, “without shedding of blood is no remission” (Hebrews 9:22). Jesus died on the cross to pay our way to eternal life with him in Heaven. The Bible says, “… he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world” (1 John 2:2). Jesus has paid the price that we could never pay. The Bible says, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). Christ is offering to slay the beast of eternity for you. The command of the Bible is simple: “repent ye, and believe the gospel” (Mark 1:15).
To repent is to change your mind. Until now, you might have been convinced that you are good enough for Heaven. Change your mind. Until now, you might have believed that there are many ways to Heaven. The Bible says, “...there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). Change your mind. Until now, you might have seen your sin as a fairly insignificant matter. My friend, it is your sin that put Christ on the cross. God wants to save you from it. You must accept God’s point of view. Change your mind. Choose to hate your sin as God hates it.
To believe is to put your trust in something. Lots of people realize that Jesus existed, and some even realize that he is God. But this understanding alone will not save your soul. To be saved, you must put your faith in him alone to save you. The Bible says, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).
The beast of eternity can be a terror or a trophy for you.
If you choose to slay it by your own merits and righteousness, it will be a terror that you will never escape. Hell is filled with “good, upstanding citizens” who lived seemingly good lives but never put their trust in Christ.
On the other hand, if you will acknowledge to the Lord Jesus Christ your guilt and inability to save yourself, he will apply his sacrifice on the cross to your account.
It all depends on whether or not you are willing to allow Christ to slay the beast of eternity for you. Ask him to save you, and he will! Jesus said, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out” (John 6:37).
If you choose to accept Christ as your personal Savior, please reach out to us so we can help you get to know your Savior better. God doesn’t just want to save you, he wants to have a lifelong relationship with you. The best way to get to know the God of the Bible is to attend church and spend time in the Bible and in prayer. It would be our privilege to encourage you in your walk with the Lord.
