For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16
All have sinned and come short of God and are therefore subject to eternal damnation in hell. Because all are sinners, they must face judgement, which will be at the end of time. But thanks to Jesus, who redeemed us by paying the price before God, today we can be saved and become true sons of God.
In reference to the verse John 3:16, you might be asking: “What does it mean to ‘believe in Him’ and what does it mean ‘should not perish’?” These are very important questions, because your eternal future is at stake.
Christ paid it all—all our sinfulness before God. Therefore, if we believe with all our heart and trust in Jesus, we become saved and become sons of God, and have eternal life with Him.
In contrast, if we disregard this message (the gospel) and go on in life with our sinful ways, and die in that condition, we perish. Our soul will go to eternal damnation apart from God.
Can you see, my friend, how crucial this is? Gracefully, even our believing in Jesus Christ is a gift of God, for God is the one that attract us to Him because we don’t go to Him of our own accord. We are dead spiritually, because Adam and Eve sinned, though God had warned them. Therefore, if you, with humility, ask God for that saving faith, in His divine mercy He will give you that faith.
If you have considered this truth and you want peace of mind, you can obtain it by asking God to forgive your sins, repenting. You can pray in this fashion with remorse and humility:
“Lord, I know that I am a sinner and far from thy glory. I know that if I die in this condition I will go to hell and be apart from you for all eternity. Oh Lord, I ask for mercy. At this moment I repent of all my sins. I believe in Jesus Christ and His redeeming work, by which I’ll be Holy before thee; confident of this, I ask that you abide in my heart and Your Spirit abide in me. I surrender all my will to you and I will live for you. Thank you Lord for your forgiveness.”
