You may be wondering why certain religious groups insist that you are lost and need to be saved. Saved? saved from what? As far as you are concerned, you don’t feel lost. You feel fine just as you are. So what’s the big fuss? Ok, let’s go over some facts together:

[a] Do you ever feel that in spite of all your achievements and all that you possess, there is still a void and an emptiness gnawing at your insides?

[b] Do you have that uneasy feeling that you’re missing something in life?

[c] Are you desperately searching for new thrills to feel alive and motivated?

[d] Do you need a quick picker-up each day to face life challenges?

[e] Do you quickly dismiss ideas of rejection, loneliness and death because these thoughts really scare you?

If your answer is yes to any of the above, then you are lost. Why? You ask. Isn’t this the way normal people feel? In fact, all your peers confide that they have the same sentiments.

They feel and react the same way and suffer from the same social dissatisfaction. They are no different from you. You see yourself and family having every day problems, but nothing out of the ordinary So what’s the big deal?

Well, let me tell you. The feelings described above are symptoms of a desperate soul living an empty existence and prone to depression or any other terrible emotional conditions. All that is needed is a major life crisis to push you over the edge. Honestly, could you survive a divorce, chronic illness, unemployment, sudden homelessness, losing the esteem of your close friends, or loneliness? Of course, no one is exempt from these life dilemmas and there is no insurance that covers these catastrophes. Even though no one is exempt from these unfavorable situations, there is a way to be protected from them. Yes, rain will and must fall, but if you have proper protection you won’t be anxious when it starts to rain.

If you do not have a relationship with God, the Creator, you are losing out on an excellent opportunity to have peace of mind while in this life and to reap future benefits that God promises.

What does that have to do with me?

No matter what anyone tells you, God created you to have a relationship with Him. You may have repressed this natural longing for a relationship with God for a long time.

However, the anxieties brought on by life’s impossibilities are nothing less than your inner self calling out for a reconnection with God. Nothing else can fill this void nor take the place of this spiritual longing that is inherent to all human beings.

How can I satisfy this emptiness
that I always feel?

We can only satisfy our feeling of emptiness by reconnecting with God, the Creator. However, due to our sinful nature we cannot relate to God on our own terms. There is a barrier between God and man. The Bible, which is the word of God, tells us that man is cut off from any purposeful relationship with God:

“But your iniquities have separated you from your God: your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear” (Isaiah 59:2).

The punishment for man’s sinful nature is death, which includes a spiritual separation from God in this present life.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23).

God will also punish those who do not ask for and receive His forgiveness in this life.

“… The lake of fire is the second death. Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire” (Revelation 20:14-15).

What must I do to be saved?

You can overcome the terrible anxieties of your present life and escape God’s punishment for sin.

God recognizes that all human beings come into this world with sins.

“For all have sinnedand fall short of the glory of God …” (Romans 3:23).

However God loves us and wants to save and protect us from the eternal punishment reserved for those who choose to live in sin.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

God sent His only son, Jesus Christ, to die in order to pay for our sins. This was the only way that God’s judgment could be satisfied. Jesus Christ rose up from the tomb triumphantly showing the world that he had power over death and he returned to his Father in heaven.

We can do nothing by ourselves to receive God’s forgiveness. We cannot receive His forgiveness by our good deeds, by our kindness to others, neither by our religious acts. We can only be saved by asking Jesus Christ to forgive us and reconnect us with God, our father. Salvation is only possible through Jesus Christ.

“If we confess our sins, he [Jesus Christ] is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

Jesus Christ is the answer to an intimate relationship with God, without Him life is void and meaningless. Turn to God and put your trust in Jesus Christ who died for you and rose again. Some people like to express their faith to God in a prayer like this:

Jesus, I recognize that I am a sinner and am in need of your forgiveness. I ask that you come into my life, pardon me of all sins that I have committed and make me that person that God wants me to be. Thank you Jesus.

The important point here is that you should ask Jesus to come into your life, forgive you of your sins and reunite you with God in a personal and intimate relationship.

When Christ comes into your life, you become a Christian, that is, a follower of Jesus Christ and you also become a child of God.

If you sincerely asked Jesus Christ in your life and believed that you have a personal relationship with God, then you are as of this moment a Christian; that is a child of God.
