Getting a Clean Heart
Our heart is that innermost part—
The part where we think and feel.
Words and actions flow from our heart,
Revealing what’s genuine—what’s real.
Those nearby may observe us,
Noticing our outward-most part.
But God sees deep down inside us—
He knows all thoughts in our heart.
Long ago, when God made this world,
He gave a clean heart to man.
But mankind chose to disobey God;
Thus, sin and its consequences began.
Sin caused man to be separated from God—
For God is holy, and God also is just.
So to restore a relationship with Him,
Getting our heart clean is truly a must!
But how can it be that our heart
Could ever have all sins forgiven?
For just trying to be “good enough”
Will never qualify us for heaven!
In mercy, God sent His Son, Jesus,
To pay the penalty required for our sin—
Making a way for our heart to be clean
And to enjoy a relationship with Him.
God’s perfect Son was our substitute—
Giving His blood—His life—on the cross.
He died, was buried, then came back alive.
His love was so great, He paid all of sin’s cost!
So the only way of forgiveness
Comes through God’s mercy and grace!
Will you now turn to God from your sins,
And believe Jesus died in your place?
If this decision to trust Jesus to save you
Is real down deep in your heart,
Then you are forgiven and cleansed!
From God’s family, you’ll never depart!
Keeping your Heart Close to God
God’s Holy Spirit now lives in your heart
To help you choose what is right.
But with frequent temptations to sin,
It’s often not God, but ourselves, we delight!
In the Bible God gives us warnings,
That our heart we should carefully guard;
For it’s easy to make wrong choices,
Causing closeness with God to be marred.
But when you know in your heart you’ve failed,
Confess to God your particular sin.
He’ll forgive wrong thoughts, words, and deeds—
Then you can sense His nearness again.
Each day of the week, prayer is vital,
And quality time in God’s Word.
Take time to meditate on it,
And don’t let life’s busyness deter!
Seek God’s wisdom and guidance each day;
Rejoice and sing in your heart to the Lord!
Tell others of His work in your life;
Pray that His truth will not be ignored!
Be wary of thinking too much of yourself,
And the things you feel you deserve;
For the Bible gives us instruction
That it’s others we’re to whole-heartedly serve.
Often spend time with God’s people
Who have chosen the Bible as guide.
For together you can worship and grow,
And be encouraged to walk close by God’s side.
And when life’s trials come upon you,
And it seems that God is not near—
Remember His promise never to leave you.
He can give your heart peace to overcome fear.
So daily, with all of your heart
Seek to love God, to trust, to obey,
To serve, to follow, and to quickly return
When your heart has gone astray.
"Create in me a clean heart, O God." Psalm 51:10
