A moment in time can make a great difference in your life.

You have applied and interviewed for an important job, and in a moment in time you have heard the words, “You’re hired!” In a moment in time you went from being unemployed to getting a great job with a possible future career.

In a moment in time you have stood with the one you love and heard them say, “I do.” In a moment in time, you went from being a single person to being married!

Perhaps as a husband you have sat in the waiting room as your wife was having a baby. You heard your baby’s cry when in a moment in time your child drew its first breath outside its mother’s womb. In a moment in time when that newborn entered the world, your wife became a mom and you a dad!

Salvation, or being born again, is just like that; it occurs IN A MOMENT IN TIME! Past and present are marked out by it. As the writer records in the hymn Amazing Grace, “I once was LOST but now am FOUND; was BLIND but now I see.” Mr. Newton also testifies in the hymn, “How precious did that grace appear the hour I first believed!” In a moment in time, he went from a nonbeliever to a BELIEVER!

Does the Bible speak of this moment in time? It certainly does! In John 5:24, we read, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.” It speaks of the present – “hath everlasting life.” It speaks of the future – “shall not come into condemnation.” It speaks of the past as a moment in time – “but IS PASSED from DEATH unto LIFE.” So, in a moment in time someone went from being “dead in trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1), to being made ALIVE (Ephesians 2:5). [The word “quicken” in the KJV is translated from a Greek word meaning “make alive.”]

Colossians 1:13 & 14 says, “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.” So, how do we get from the place of “the power of darkness” to the place of “the kingdom of his dear Son”? We are TRANSLATED by God the Father (Colossians 1:12) in a moment in time.

This moment in time is also seen in 1 Peter 2:9(b), “… hath called you out of DARKNESS into his marvellous LIGHT.”

So, dear reader, though you may not have written the calendar date of the moment in time you went from being a LOST SINNER to a SINNER SAVED by GRACE, surely you must remember that happiest of days!

A line in a Sunday school song says, “O what a wonderful, wonderful day, day I will never forget; After I’d wandered in darkness away, Jesus my Savior I met. O what a tender, compassionate friend, He met the need of my heart; Shadows dispelling, with joy I am telling, He made all the darkness depart.”

Dear one, in this moment in time, open your heart to the Lord Jesus Christ so that he may be your Lord and Savior, in an instant! “…for this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry” (Luke 15:24).
