A good place to begin a meditation on Jesus is the first and third stanzas of an 1887 hymn:

More about Jesus would I know

More of His grace to others show;

More of His saving fullness see,

More of His love who died for me.

More about Jesus, in His Word

Holding communion with my Lord;

Hearing His voice in every line,

Making each faithful saying mine.

Let us take a survey of things said about Jesus in the Word of God.

“… Never man spake like this man…” John 7:43-47

“… What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!” Matthew 8:23-27

“… Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works?...” Matthew 13:53-58

“…And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes…And they were all AMAZED, insomuch that they questioned among themselves, saying, What thing is this?...” Mark 1:21-28

“…And they come to Jesus, and see him that was possessed with the devil, and had the legion, SITTING, and CLOTHED, and in his RIGHT MIND: and they were afraid…” Mark 5:1-19

“…And were beyond measure astonished, saying, HE HATH DONE ALL THINGS WELL: HE MAKETH BOTH THE DEAF TO HEAR, AND THE DUMB TO SPEAK.” Mark 7:31-37

“…And they that had eaten were about four thousand…” Mark 8:1-9

“…And they were all amazed, and they glorified God, and were filled with fear, saying, WE HAVE SEEN STRANGE THINGS TO DAY.” Luke 5:18-26

The first and last stanza from an old beloved hymn:

Jesus – how much Thy name unfolds

To every opened ear;

The pardoned sinner’s memory holds

None other half so dear.

The mention of Thy name shall bow

Our hearts to worship Thee;

The chiefest of ten thousand Thou,

Whose love has set us free.

It was said by the woman at the well, “…Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this THE CHRIST?...” John 4:6-30

It was said by Simon Peter, “… Thou art THE CHRIST, THE SON OF THE LIVING GOD…” Matthew 16:13-17

The centurion and crucifixion legionnaires said:

“… TRULY THIS WAS THE SON OF GOD.” Matthew 27:54

Nathanael said:

“…, Rabbi, thou art THE SON OF GOD; THOU ART THE KING OF ISRAEL.”John 1:43-51

Doubting Thomas said:

“… MY LORD AND MY GOD…” John 20:24-29

John ended his gospel with these words:

“And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.” John 21:25

Now, who is JESUS to you?
