CHAPTER 1

We live in a world that was designed for human occupation! Did you ever stop to think about that? God is a ‘designer’ God, in the finest sense of the word!

I want to explore with you some of the finer points of our lives lived in this perfect world that He made just for you and me and all the other inhabitants, including the animals, birds, fish and reptiles which we take for granted, all around us, every day!

Let’s begin with your body.

Your brain, which weighs around 3 pounds, is able to recall things from years ago, stores all sorts of information, and is never “filled up”! You will never have your brain go on ‘overload’! You have:

Two eyes which give you depth perception—very important when you are driving or catching a softball! These two tiny, state-of-the-art cameras instantaneously focus on whatever you’re looking at. They are set in bony sockets for protection from blows to the head, eyelids to cover them and keep them moist, and, miraculously, you see two different pictures but your brain fuses them into one picture, which gives you three-dimensional vision!

Two ears, which allow you to tell from which direction a sound is coming. And your ears serve another purpose as well: Balance issues are handled by the inner makings of ears. Without balance, you would not be able to stand and walk!

Your nose and mouth both serve more than one purpose, as well. You can smell lovely odors, and we breathe air into our lungs with our noses. In case it gets plugged, you can breathe through your mouth which is also used for eating! Mouths are also used for speech and singing. Vocal chords work in this area.

Speaking of your mouth, think about the chewing process. You have upper and lower teeth, all in nice even rows, with biting teeth in the front and grinding teeth in the back, on a hinged jaw that allows you to chew up tough food, like broccoli and steak. Marvelous engineering!

Opposing thumbs: There is no way you could use your fingers very well without the opposing thumb that allows the hand to grasp objects, put clothing on, and feed our bodies!

Your arms and legs are needed to care for your own needs and for others as well. And toes on your feet help you stand firm. The bones in your body are porous, kind of like sponges, which makes them lighter in weight and stronger, too. It takes some force to break a bone, thankfully, or you would have something fractured or broken every time you took a tumble!

Procreation system: The most remarkable, miraculous invention of God Himself! He takes a sperm and an ova, two very small entities, puts them together and produces an offspring nine months later, which bears remarkable resemblance to the father and/or the mother, down to the color of the eyes and shape of the nose. Evolution gets blown out the window with this miraculous, wondrous process. Your skull is not fully developed, which allows it to move during the process of birth to prevent fracture.

GOD THOUGHT OF EVERYTHING!

Your body has a protection system that knows when a foreign substance is present. You get a splinter in your finger and the area turns red as your body fights to get rid of the offending particle. People who receive body parts in transplants must take anti-rejection medicine the rest of their lives to prevent the body’s natural defense, to rid itself of a foreign part, even though that transplanted kidney or liver is helping the body to live on. AMAZING!

I could go on about how the heart pumps blood through your body to bring oxygen and sustenance to all the areas that need constant refueling. Your sweat glands cool the body to keep it at 98.6 degrees in really hot weather (Just a thought here - WHERE is the heating plant located that keeps your body warm?). There are a TON more interesting facts about our bodies, such as the 60,000 MILES of blood vessels they contain. This sounds very unreal, but my sources all say the same thing!

There is a whole WORLD of miracles to examine, as we look at the marvelous works of our Heavenly Father, in preparing the perfect place for us to live and THRIVE in this big old marvelous world of ours!

CHAPTER 2

Now we move on to the world around us and the ways God has provided for EVERY need!

Seasons on the planet are caused by the slight tilt of the earth. The tilt allows for spring, summer, fall and winter. We are just far enough from the sun to allow for cold and heat, but even those are not so excessive as to cook us alive or freeze us solid in winter! God thought of EVERYTHING when He made the Earth! The oceans have a boundary set for them to keep them from engulfing the land mass. Gravity is present to hold us here, so we don’t go flying off the earth, even though it is orbiting the Sun at 67,000 miles per hour!

Let’s examine the world itself. Trees grow profusely! You let a piece of ground lie untended for 10 years and you see the beginnings of a forest—trees sprouting up all over the place! Trees serve several purposes.

First, and probably the most important thing is that they use carbon dioxide and discard oxygen, giving us good fresh air to breathe into our lungs!

They have leaves for shade on hot afternoons, branches for birds to build nests for their young, and wood to cut into planks to use for building our homes and for beautiful furniture! Wood burns in fireplaces, adding to our comfort on a chilly evening. AND, trees add to the beauty of our landscapes!

Then we have fruit trees. How tasty is this? Peaches, cherries, pears, apples, plums, coconuts—all very different but all delightful to our taste buds! There are nut trees as well, providing walnuts, pecans, and other edible, tasty tidbits to add flavor and crunch to cookies and cakes!

Flowers: Wildflowers as well as cultivated varieties are used to produce perfumes or just perfuming the air we breathe! I can’t imagine a wedding without flowers to adorn the church, the bridesmaids and the bride’s bouquet, Can you?

Plants: The cotton plant gives us cotton bolls that are used to make our clothing. Other plants provide bountiful food—tomatoes, corn, carrots, cauliflower, beets, onions, green beans—differing greatly in flavors, textures and colors, but all very useful for the human body!

Let’s move to the animal kingdom now.

There is such variety—from the raccoon to the rhinoceros on land, and from shrimp to whales in the lakes and oceans.

And insects: There are at least one million known kinds!

Honeybees: We have NO idea how vital they are to our lives! Honeybees gather pollen from flowers and turn it into honey. But the honeybee does more than produce honey. If it were not for honeybees, we would have FEW crops! They pollinate our strawberries and fruit trees during summer, which is vital for the production of the fruits we love!

Look at the variety of birds: vultures, robins, ducks, chickens, parrots, macaws, and many more. You NEVER see a mixture, such as half swallow, half bluebird. In Genesis chapter 1, we are told that they were made ‘after their kind’ which means they don’t mix!

One year, we made the mistake of allowing a pair of swallows to build a nest on our front porch. We discovered a lot we didn’t know about them. For example, when the babies are very small, their excrement is enveloped in a sac, which the parent birds carry away and drop in the grass. When the babies get bigger, they know enough to point their tails out over the edge and do their job on the floor of our porch! We removed that nest, once the babies had fledged, and when they came back the next spring, we put objects out to discourage them from building again!

I delight in watching hummingbirds. Tiny as they are, they are almost unbelievable! Their wings beat up to an astounding 80 beats per second! Their long bills have long tongues inside, used to sip nectar from flowers. Their tiny nests are about the size of a walnut! They can fly any direction they wish! I’ve had one hover over a nearby flower, while sitting

on my swing, and he would come within arm’s reach, knowing that he can move a LOT faster than my hand!

So many birds have beautiful coloration. And some are iridescent, glowing in the sunshine. There are birds that live in the jungles, all kinds of exotic birds, big birds and small ones. According to my sources, there are 11,000 species in the world! And there are sub-species, dozens of variations of color and markings in the same group of birds. I have decided that God LOVES displaying His handiwork and shows it in the great variety we see all around us.

Animals have inborn instincts to protect them from danger. A tiny rabbit can run fast when frightened or challenged. Deer run from danger, too, although there have been times when a male deer rises on his hind feet to kick at what seems to be an enemy! We all know that bears don’t run from danger, ordinarily—they have teeth and claws to use for self-defense, as do lions, leopards, and tigers! We have such a variety in sizes in animals, too! There is the gigantic elephant, hippopotami as compared to rats, mice and chipmunks.

In the aquatic world, there are more than 33,000 species of fish identified in our oceans and lakes! Some are mammals, such as whales. Some have cartilage instead of bone structures, allowing them more flexibility. Sharks fit in this category. And that is all I’ll say about sharks!

I could move on to the universe—so vast, it is measured in light years rather than miles! Each planet and star was put in its exact place by the Maker of Heaven and Earth! Scripture tells us that God has named each star, and there are more than we can count!

As man has developed stronger and stronger telescopes, more stars are discovered. And just as God has NO beginning and NO ending, our universe evidently has no ending, either!

That is more than my brain can conceive—no ending! Everything we have known in our lifetimes has a beginning and an ending. Something ‘endless’ simply doesn’t compute!

But we are told in the Bible, God’s Word given to us by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, that our lives will never end!

Once we have lived our life out here on earth, whether it be 100 days or 100 years, we move into eternity. And WHERE we go for eternity is determined by our decision here on earth!

Will we believe what we are told in the Word of God—that Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, came to this earth as a tiny baby, grew into manhood and taught the people around Him about His loving Father? He wants all men to come to Him in simple faith! We must believe and TRUST that Jesus Christ’s death on the cross was total payment for our sin, and His rising from the dead on the third day was proof that our Heavenly Father approved it!

The alternative is Hell, a place that God prepared for the devil and his angels, but those who choose to live their life with no regard for God and His Word will go there as well. It is utterly foolish to ignore the great price that Jesus Christ paid for your soul!

That is your decision to make, and mine as well. He is not willing that ANY should perish. John, chapter 3, verse 16 says, “For God so LOVED the world [that’s you and me] that he GAVE his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him [Jesus Christ] should not perish, but have everlasting LIFE.”

Make the smart choice today. The ETERNAL choice!
