I gave you this paper because I care about how you’re doing. And I want you to know that God cares, too.

SAD? Maybe your heart is broken from unimaginable pain and grief—or perhaps you’re trying to comfort someone else in their sorrow. In those moments, words rarely help to heal our hurting hearts. Usually, what makes the difference is someone sitting with us in our pain, showing us we’re not alone.

When we follow Jesus, we can cling to the promise that Heaven is coming. And in the meantime, we can take comfort in knowing that God is near to the brokenhearted. As we weep, He’s with us. God meets us in our pain and disappointment. He is “the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort” (2 Corinthians 1:3).

ANXIOUS? We all experience dark days when we’re held hostage to our worries and fears. Those days may last for weeks, or months, or even years. Whatever battle you’re facing with anxiety, we have a hope in the darkness, and our hope has a name—Jesus. He cares and understands.

What if anxiety could be the very thing that helps you learn to rely on and trust in God? The Bible says: “In Him [Jesus] was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not” (John 1:4-5). Darkness will not win when we have Jesus on our side.

ANGRY? Anger itself isn’t necessarily a bad thing. In fact, in the Bible we see Jesus literally turn over tables to combat corruption! When we see people doing wrong to others, it should make us mad and break our hearts. But that doesn’t mean we should seek revenge or behave recklessly or unlovingly. “Be ye angry, and sin not” (Ephesians 4:26).

When anger rises, invite God into the situation. Maybe there’s something that needs to change. Ask God what your next step should be, so that your anger helps to fuel positive change, whether in you or in the world.

Stressed? Are you feeling tired, helpless, or overwhelmed? For every situation, Jesus offers true peace and rest. His promise is, “come unto Me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).

Jesus experienced homelessness, hunger, thirst, rejection, and betrayal. He also knew the demands of popularity and leadership. When it all got to be too much, the Bible tells us He often “withdrew Himself into the wilderness, and prayed” (Luke 5:16). Jesus knew that His strength came from God. You, too, can live with the peace of Jesus and the power of God’s Spirit who comforts, equips, and strengthens you.

HAPPY? When life is good, it’s easy to smile and laugh. But as soon as life gets difficult, or we begin to compare our situation with someone who has it better, happiness can fade away.

True happiness and joy come from a personal relationship with God. When we choose to believe what God says to us and about us, a truly beautiful life unfolds. “In Thy presence is fulness of joy” (Psalm 16:11).

God Cares. God sent His Son, Jesus, to this broken world. He experienced unimaginable pain as He bore the weight of our sin on the cross. Jesus’ death declares the depth of His love for you, and His resurrection from the grave shows that you can have new life, too! No matter what you’re feeling or facing, call out to God—He promises to be with you through it all.

“God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
