Encouraging Words from Someone Who Cares

Who cares? So what? So what if I live my life any way I please? Whether I live or I die? Who really cares?

The longer I live, the more I am convinced there really is a God who cares: a God who desires to have a personal relationship with every individual … yes, even you and me. And I have to believe that every one of us has a feeling, way down deep inside, that God is real and that He is waiting for us to open up our lives to him. The Bible says He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. And Jesus Himself said, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).

So what is keeping us from God’s abundant life? The problem is SIN! The will of mankind has always tended toward sin. And it’s generational—we were all born in sin! The Bible tells us in Romans 3:10, “There is none righteous, no, not one.” Romans 6:23 tells us, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

You may be thinking, “So what?” Are there really any eternal consequences? Isn’t this life all there is? NO! The truth is, the Bible tells us there is a heaven to gain and a hell to escape. Revelation 20:15 says, “And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.” Now, I understand we cannot truly comprehend eternity. But this punishment in hell is forever …
F-O-R-E-V-E-R!

Have you ever heard it put this way?
BORN ONCE—DIE TWICE
BORN TWICE—DIE ONCE

It’s the basic idea of being “born again.” Jesus said, “…Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). This is where the “grace” of God comes in: “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us” (Titus 3:5).

Simply put, you cannot earn heaven through your good works! St Paul explained it this way: “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9).

So who cares? Well, I do. Better than that, the Lord Jesus cares. He loves and cares for you, as if you were the only person on earth. He proved it by carrying the burden of your sins on the cross. So now what?

Remember the song we heard as a child? “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so…”

He loves us in spite of all our baggage and wasted lives! Knowing we deserve the worst, He provides the best! God doesn’t love you for what you are; He loves you in spite of what you are! You don’t have to “measure up” to be loved by God. We have eternal hope, through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

So now … do you care about your eternal destiny as much as God does? If you do, there is only one thing you must do: trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior. Look at Romans 10:9-10, “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Do you believe? Being born again is so simple, it is easy to miss! You can express your heart’s desire to God in a prayer like this:

“Lord Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner. Please forgive me. I believe You died for my sins upon the cross and rose again. I want to turn from my sins and all efforts to save myself, putting my trust in you alone. I accept You as my personal savior. Make me a new person, as I put my eternal hope and faith in Jesus Christ. Amen.”

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).
