When we call out God’s name with no intent to communicate with God, we are speaking His name in vain. According to the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20), we are not to use God’s name in the wrong way. This means that we are not to use the name of God: 1) casually—to express shock, surprise, excitement, or amazement; 2) profanely—to serve as a substitute for (or in addition to) profanity.
God is Holy and His name is also. In Jeremiah 33:3, God promises that He will answer when called upon. Therefore, let us choose to honor and praise the name of the One who loves us and cares about us!
