Happy Birthday everyone! We are celebrating 250 years of freedom that began with the approval of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th of 1776 by our Founding Fathers.

Our founders did not agree with how they were being treated by King George III. So ultimately, they gave the 27 reasons in the declaration for our colonies parting ways with the mother country England. In the declaration the founders said “We hold these truths to be self-evident...”

Notice that our Fathers believed in something that was Truth. George Washington said, “Truth will ultimately prevail where there is pains to bring it to light.”

Our founders publicly said that certain things were truth: “That all men are created equal.”

1. All people were created by a being called God.

2. All people have an equal standing with God, “that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights.” Life. Liberty. Pursuit of Happiness

Unalienable means that it cannot be taken away. In this case it is because these rights are given to us by God, not by the government.

But notice the first right, the right to life.

Our Fathers believed that God gave us a right to life. This is validated in the sixth commandment, “Thou shalt not kill” (murder). Mankind does not have the right to kill an innocent human being.

The second right is liberty.

No human has the right to forcibly control another person’s freedom. Slavery and human trafficking are strictly forbidden by God.

The third right is the pursuit of happiness.

This right was also seen as the right to property or the right to flourish. This right is also validated in the eighth and tenth commandments. Eighth – Do not steal. Tenth – Do not covet (desire someone else’s stuff). Notice these rights correspond to the will of God.

In God’s Word (the Bible) it says, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). Notice Jesus said that for anyone to be free he/she must know the truth. Jesus also said, “I am the way, the truth ...” (John 14:6). For anyone to have true freedom he/she must accept Jesus as their personal sacrifice for their sins. Galatians 5:1 says, “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.” The bondage is the attempt to live well enough to earn God’s favor. But the Scripture says “for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). You cannot earn God’s favor. Your breaking of God’s law (the 10 Commandments) earns you the death penalty. “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).

Jesus (God the Son) loved you so much that He voluntarily took God the Father’s wrath on Himself to pay your penalty. But you must receive His sacrifice on your behalf. John 1:12 says, “But as many as received him, to them gave he the power to become the sons of God...”

Receive Jesus as your personal Savior today. When you trust in Jesus, you will receive eternal life and true freedom.
