Family and friends, working to make a living, trying to enjoy life—these can all be good things. But is that all there is to life? Is life just about doing the best you can from day to day, trying to make the best of it until you die? The truth is you were created for something bigger and better. You were created for the highest purpose possible!
You were created for God’s glory.
“Bring My sons from afar and My daughters from the ends of the earth … whom I have created for My glory.” (Isaiah 43:6-7)
The God who created all things is the same God who created you. He is a holy God and He requires all of humanity to be holy (Leviticus 19:2). That means that God is separated from everything that is bad and he wants us to be separated from everything that is bad. In other words, God wants our lives to reflect His character (goodness, wisdom, moral virtue, justice, etc). In everything we do, say, or think we should glorify God by reflecting His perfect character (1 Corinthians 10:31).
You are a sinner and do not glorify
God as you should.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
Everyone sins. At times everyone fails to think, or speak, or act in a way that would please God. We all fail to glorify God as we should. This is a problem, because God, in His perfection, cannot embrace imperfection. Remember God is holy and separated from everything that is bad. That is why the Bible teaches that our sin separates us from God (Isaiah 59:2). Sin leads to death and eternal separation from God in a place of torment (Romans 6:23; Revelation 21:8).
Jesus Christ is the only remedy for your sin.
“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” (1 Timothy 1:15) “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.’” (John 14:6)
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to earth as fully God and fully man (Colossians 2:9). He lived a perfect life, and died on a cross in the place of sinners (1 John 3:5; Romans 5:8). He rose from the dead on the third day and is alive today (1 Corinthians 15:4). He lived the life of perfection that God requires. He endured the penalty of death and separation from God. He then rose to complete the victory over sin and death. Because of Jesus’ sacrifice your sin can be forgiven, you can be given credit for His perfection, and you can have eternal life (John 3:16).
What Christ has done only benefits
those who repent and believe.
“Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away.” (Acts 3:19) “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved.” (Acts 16:31)
Repentance is turning away from your sin. Believing in Jesus is placing your faith in Him. It is more than just accepting what the Bible teaches about Him to be true. In the same way that placing your faith in a chair requires actually sitting in the chair and resting all your weight on it, placing your faith in Jesus means surrendering your life completely to Him and committing to follow Him (Mark 8:34). If you will turn away from your sin and trust Jesus completely with your life, you can receive forgiveness and eternal life.
All of this means that the only way you can do what you were created to do is through Jesus. Without Jesus the best you can hope for is just living life day to day, dying, and then spending eternity apart from God. But with Jesus your life takes on a whole new purpose—glorifying God. That is where you will find your highest joy in life, because it is why you were created. All of life’s problems will not automatically go away. But with Jesus you can have a joy and peace and purpose that sustain you through all the ups and downs of life, and on top of that, eternity with God in heaven. So you see, there really is something bigger … and better!
If it is your sincere desire to repent of your sin and place your faith in Christ, express that desire to God in prayer. Then, use the contact information below to learn what you need to do next.
