Great Warriors

Who do you think of when you’re asked to name a great warrior? I’m sure Alexander the Great would come to mind. His relentless pursuit to conquer brought about so much success that he seems to us almost inhuman.

Who else would you consider to be a warrior? Few would think to mention the name of Jesus Christ. After all, Jesus describes Himself as being “gentle and humble in heart” (Matthew 11:29).

The apostle Paul tells us that Jesus “emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant” (Philippians 2:7). Paul goes on to remind us of Jesus’ death: “Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross” (Philippians 2:8).

This picture of a suffering, crucified Christ doesn’t exactly make us think of Him as a triumphant hero. However, although Christ died on the cross, He did not stay on the cross.

Jesus is Our Triumphant King

In His own words, Jesus tells us, “I was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore” (Revelation 1:18). The same Lamb of God who was slain is now the Lamb who will triumph because “He is Lord of lords and King of kings” (Revelation 17:14). We see Jesus no longer as the suffering servant, but as a triumphant King who fights to rescue His people!

Who can compare to our Lord Jesus? Yes, Alexander was great. But his dream of Hellenizing the world died with him. For as much as Alexander the Great conquered, in the end, death prevailed. “The last enemy that will be abolished is death” (1 Corinthians 15:26) and Christ conquered even this enemy. So, now all who believe in Him can say, “Oh death, where is your sting?” (1 Corinthians 15:55).

Do You Believe in Jesus?

“God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8).

All who place their faith in Christ overcome death and have everlasting life. Jesus calls those who wish to follow Him to “repent and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15).

“If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). 

Repent of your sins, put your trust in Jesus, and be saved!
