Many people today will claim that all of us, without exception, are the children of God. Maybe you have heard someone say this, or you might have even said it yourself, but is this a true statement? Is everyone a child of God? Let’s see what the Bible says…

Jesus told some people that their father was the devil. “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do” (John 8:44).

the devil also has children of his own

1. who are the children of the devil?

The Bible says that some people are the children of the devil. What makes someone a child of the devil? Unrighteousness. This is someone who has sinned and broken the commandments of God. Anyone who has sinned is considered to be unrighteous according to the Bible.

Romans 3:10 says, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” This means that everyone of us has failed to be righteous because we have sinned. “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Those that have sinned are unrighteous, and their unrighteousness means they are the child of the devil, not the child of God. The Bible also calls them the children of disobedience (Ephesians 2:2, 5:6, Colossians 3:6), and the children of wrath (Ephesians 2:3).

2. the children of the devil cannot enter into the kingdom of god (heaven)

“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Corinthians 6:9,10).

God says very clearly that no person that is unrighteous can come into his kingdom. God has “no unrighteousness in him” (Psalm 92:15), therefore he cannot and will not allow any sin into his heavenly kingdom. So, those that are the children of the devil will not be allowed into God’s Heaven because they are unrighteous.

3. so where do the children of the devil go when they die?

The Bible says that the wages (rewards) for your sins is DEATH (Romans 6:23). This is not just a death in a graveyard, but it is a much greater eternal death in a place of torments called hell (Luke 16:23).

The Bible says that sinners (children of the Devil) will be sent into an eternal lake of fire. “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death” (Revelation 21:8).

It only makes sense that the children of the devil will be sent to the lake of fire, because that is where the Devil himself also will be sent, so it is only proper that his children would be sentenced to the same torment. “And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone … and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever” (Revelation 20:10).

When someone is sent to this awful place, it is permanent. There will be no escape from these eternal flames of hell. Revelation 14:11 says “And the smoke of their torments ascendeth up for ever.”

the children of god

The Bible says that God has children as well. “And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty” (2 Corinthians 6:18).

1. who are the children of god?

Just as we see that the children of the devil are those that are unrighteous, the Bible also tells us that the children of God are those that are righteous (without sin). We have already seen that no man or woman in this world is righteous, so how does someone become a child of God?

2. how do i become a child of god?

Galatians 3:26 says, “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.”

The only way to become a child of God is to put your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. If you have not put your faith in Jesus, you are NOT a child of God. It is that simple. Being a member of a certain religion, living in a certain country, and other such things can NEVER make you one of God’s children. John 1:12 says, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” The Bible says that you must put your faith and confidence in the Lord Jesus Christ and not yourself in order to become one of God’s children. The power to be one of God’s children comes only through the power found in Jesus Christ.

who is jesus?

The Bible says that Jesus Christ was the only one to ever walk the face of this earth without sin: “because Christ also suffered for us …Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth” (1 Peter 2:21,22). This means that he is righteous, unlike mankind, so therefore he is the only one qualified to enter into Heaven. In fact, one of the titles of Jesus is “Jesus Christ the Righteous” (1 John 2:1).

why trust jesus?

After dwelling on this planet for 33 years without ever once sinning, Jesus laid down his life on a horrible cross on a hill called Calvary. He died, not for his own sins (because he had none), but died in your place. The Bible tells us that your sins were placed on Jesus Christ during his time of suffering:

“Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand” (Isaiah 53:4-10).

you can be made righteous by jesus

“Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God” (1 John 3:1).

When Jesus died on that cross, not only did he make a way for your sins to be forgiven, but he made it possible for you to be made righteous. “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” (2 Corinthians 5:21).

Jesus is making you an offer today: he will trade your sins for his righteousness. Are you willing to accept this offer? To reject this offer from Jesus Christ is to perish in your sins. God does not desire that you perish in your unrighteousness, but that you will rather repent (to turn) and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:9).

“…God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons” (Galatians 4:4,5).

how will you be found?

“And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith” (Philippians 3:9).

So, will you accept the offer of the Lord Jesus Christ to have your sins forgiven and be made righteous? If not, you surely will perish as a child of disobedience. But you can be made the son of God if you will simply believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Don’t put this off any longer, for the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 6:2 “…now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.”

so, are we all really the children of god?

The answer is simple …

No, we all are not a child of God, but you can become one:

“…Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved…” (Acts 16:31).
