How can you miss Heaven by 18 inches? Well, that is the distance between your head and your heart. When you say you believe in God, what does that mean to you? Think about this: God says that the devils—who will one day be cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:10-15)—believe in Him, too! “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble” (James 2:19). So, ask yourself: if the devils believe in God and are subjected to Hell someday, will I also go to Hell even though I, like the devils, believe in God?

Do you trust God? Do you have faith in God? Do you believe in your heart that the Lord Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven? “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6).

It’s one thing to believe in God, but to have full faith and trust in Him is something else. To have full assurance of your faith and trust in God is a matter of the heart. Well, you know the Bible says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16).

The Bible also says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation” (Romans 10:9-10). Trusting in God is not head belief, but a matter of the heart.

So you see, it is one thing to believe in God and another to believe in God with all your heart. Oftentimes, belief could end up being head knowledge: “Well, of course, I believe in God. I have heard His story a thousand times over. Trust me, I know.” You may know the facts, but do you know God? You may go to church on Christmas and Easter, but did you ever fully grasp the importance of trusting in God, and what He did for you? You often hear that Jesus Christ died on a cross for you, rose again from the dead, and so forth. But the thing you have to come to realize is that what you have learned about God requires another step. You must trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.

What you have learned about God in your head has to make its way to your heart. Think about it like this: when you met the love of your life (boyfriend, girlfriend, spouse), there was a time when you didn’t know much about him/her. There was a time when you started learning some basic things about this person and then you took it another step further: you started a relationship. So all of the things you have come to learn about this special person developed into a love; your head knowledge of this person had taken root in your heart. Well, the same goes with your belief in God. What you learn about God must transfer from your head to your heart.

Just like your loved one, God desires to have a relationship with you. Here’s what the Bible says:

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8). God says that we are all sinners, and come short of His glory (Romans 3:23).

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23). The payment of sin is death, and Hell is the place to receive it. But because of what Jesus did for you on the cross, you don’t have to receive that payment. “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed” (1 Peter 2:24). Jesus Christ died for you! Today, are you willing to trust Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior? Are you willing to believe in your heart?

Pray to God: ask Him to save you from your sin, and put your total trust in His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ the Lord. Confess to Him that you’re a sinner, in need of saving grace. Ask Him to come into your heart today and save you.

“Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near” (Isaiah 55:6).

“For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13).
