Why Me?

Many people ask this question when they are going through a difficult time. I have also asked, “Why me?” and “Did I do something to deserve these trials?”

At eight months old, the hospital became a place that I frequently visited. I was diagnosed with Chiari malformation, resulting in two shunts and nineteen brain or brain-related surgeries. I did not do anything wrong; trials were just a part of my life.

The surgery I can most remember was in 2015. I remember waking up on an October morning dazed and confused. My shunt was going down. Immediately, my parents rushed me to the hospital for what should have been an ordinary shunt revision. Something went wrong in the surgery, and I had a brain bleed. I lost the ability to walk and talk during this time. After six months of extensive therapy—to God be the glory—I have regained most of what I lost. But I still asked myself the question, “Why did this happen to me?”

Now, I feel I have more of an answer as to why He allowed me to go through trials:

TO GET MY ATTENTION! Life is short! Hebrews 9:27 says, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.”

TO GET THE GLORY! Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”

God can do the same thing with you! Is he trying to get your attention?

When you go through trials:

ARE YOU READY? If God asked you, “Why should I let you into heaven?”—what would your response be?

Are you relying on your good works? The Bible says in Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God not of works, lest any man should boast.”

Jesus is the only way! John 14:6, says “I am the way, the truth and the life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

You can know today you are saved!

YOU MUST REALIZE THAT YOU ARE A SINNER AND YOU CAN’T SAVE YOURSELF! Romans 3:23 says, “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”

Ephesians 2:8-9 says, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”

YOU MUST RECOGNIZE THAT THERE IS A SAVIOR! Romans 5:8 says, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” The end of Romans 6:23 says that “the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

YOU CAN ACCEPT THIS GIFT (the gospel: that Jesus came to earth, he died for you and me, and he rose again the third day)! Romans 10:9-10,13 says, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

IF YOU HAVE PUT YOUR TRUST IN JESUS CHRIST, YOU ARE SAVED! Once saved, always saved! John 6:37 says, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.”

It is only by God’s mercy that I am not dead! The question of “WHY ME?” can be answered through the gospel. God sent his own Son to suffer for us and take our sins upon himself! Focusing on that makes me ask the question in my life: “WHY NOT ME?” I deserve death and hell, but God! If you have any questions concerning how to be saved or want to know more, please contact us!
