Hvat leiddi Nikodemus Til kristus?

This message is inspired by the account of John 3. While it follows the biblical narrative, some creative dialogue and descriptive details have been added to help bring the scene to life and are not part of the inspired biblical text.

Jesus and Nicodemus

John 3:1-2 - There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

The scriptures that Nicodemus had studied since childhood now spoke to his heart. Being a Pharisee, he had devoted himself to gaining knowledge of God’s word. He had heard about the man called Jesus and how he confounded the teachers of the law at the age of 12.

The need to have a conversation with Jesus weighed heavily upon his mind. Could this man be the miracle worker spoken by Isaiah that would open the eyes of the blind? He had to find out for himself.

Nicodemus made some inquiries and found where he and his followers would be sleeping that night. At evening time, he changed out of his priestly clothes and dressed himself as a common man, not wanting to be recognized by anyone.

He approached the location where they were staying with caution. His heart was beating out of his chest. What would he find? Would Jesus be harsh and condemning? He continued trying to be good enough for God’s mercy to be upon him, but it never satisfied the thirst of his soul. As Nicodemus came near to Jesus, Jesus invited him to come closer and talk.

In the heart of Nicodemus, a scripture passage whispered to him and said “Come now, and let us reason together.”

As Nicodemus drew closer, he felt compelled to pour his heart out to this man. He had questions. How could he do these miracles? How could he know all about me?

Jesus did not address these questions; rather, he went straight to the problem. He told him, “You must be born again.” Nicodemus could not understand.

As Nicodemus listened, Christ referred to himself twice as the Son of man. Nicodemus began to recall the writings of Daniel and the Ancient of Days. Twice during their conversation, Christ had spoken about the necessity of believing in him.

When the conversation was over, as Nicodemus began his journey home, one verse kept returning to his heart. The prophet Joel had written that “whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered.”

Sometime later, it seems that Nicodemus believed upon the Lord. Scripture does not record the event of his conversion. However, it is recorded that he spoke in John 7 about the necessity of listening to Jesus.

Later in John 19:39-40 it is mentioned that Nicodemus came publicly and retrieved the body of Christ. He cared for the body of Christ in front of everyone after the crucifixion. He was willing to identify himself with Christ no matter what the cost.

What is your relationship with Christ?

Have you had a conversation with him about your soul? I encourage you to find a private place to pray and to call upon him for deliverance from sin.

Romans 10:9 - That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Hvat fór hann at síggja? Fór Jesus at vera harðrendur og dømandi? Hann helt á at royna at vera nóg góður til at hava náði Guds uppiborna, men tað fylti ikki tostan í sál hansara. Sum Nikodemus nærkaðist Jesusi, beyð Jesus honum at koma nærri at tosa saman.

Í hjarta Nikodemussar teskaði eitt skriftstað til hansara og segði: “Komið, latið okkum tala saman um rætt!”

Sum Nikodemus nærkaðist, kendi hann trongd at oysa hjarta út fyri hesum manni. Hann hevði spurningar. Hvussu gjørdi hann hesi undur og kraftargerðir? Hvussu veit hann alt um meg?

Jesus svaraði ikki spurningunum beinleiðis. Heldur fór hann beint til kjarnuna. Hann segði við hann: “Tú mást verða føddur av nýggjum!” Hetta dugdi Nikodemus ikki at skilja.

Skriftirnar greiða ikki frá sjálvari umvendingini, men í Jóhs.

Róm. 10.9: Tí um tú við munninum játtar Jesus sum Harra og trýrt í hjartanum, at Gud reisti Hann upp frá hinum deyðu, so skalt tú verða frelstur.
