It’s just a few days away from your special day. A courier arrives with your dream wedding gown: you remove the protective cover and admire the handiwork. “It’s perfect!” you exclaim. Your best friend helps you with a final fitting and as she handles the zipper she spills some of the red wine you both have been drinking on the gown. “EEEEEEEK, it’s ruined!” you scream.
“Relax, it’s only a small stain” she says “Look at the rest of the gown, it’s nice and clean, surely you won’t reject all that good dress on account of that small stain?”
“This is unacceptable, it’s my wedding day and I demand perfection!”
Does this sound like you or someone you know?
Let me ask you this question: Who’s right? The friend who thinks the good outweighs the bad? Or the bride who wants everything to be just right?
Have you considered that the way a bride views her gown is similar to how God sees you? The Bible teaches:
ROMANS 3:23 - For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.
That’s right! All of us have the stain of sin in our lives.
REVELATION 21:8 - But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
Sin keeps you from being worthy of entering heaven. Any sin! (Ephesians 5:5)
PROVERBS 20:9 - Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
All sins affect your soul, like stains on a wedding gown!
ROMANS 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
When Jesus Christ died on the cross, He did it willingly. He did it for you … because He loves you!
1 PETER 3:18 - For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God...
ISAIAH 1:18 - Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
God wants to cleanse you of the stain of sin, but He will not force you against your will; that would be extortion!
COLOSSIANS 1:14 - In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.
Could a wedding day be perfect if the dress was stained? Could Heaven be perfect if a stained soul was there?
People often ask why. Why did this happen to me? Or why did God let that happen?
Do you think you have been unfairly treated by God? How did you respond?
JOB 13:15 - Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him...
I ask you to think about this: God is love! Right? So if God forced you against your will, would that be loving?
DEUTERONOMY 30:19 - I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life...
How is God responsible for the choices you make? How is God responsible if you choose to say no to His offer? After all, if you say yes, He has all eternity to make it up to you!
Say yes to Jesus today! If it is your heart’s desire to be washed clean of your sin and put your trust in Jesus, you can call upon Him with words like these:
Dear Lord Jesus, I am a sinner and the stain of sin defiles my soul. I know I’m not worthy of Heaven’s purity and that I cannot earn entrance to Heaven by my own efforts. I believe that when Jesus Christ died on the cross, He did it to pay for all my sins; so I ask that you forgive and cleanse me of all my sins and save me from Hell and take me to Heaven someday. This I ask in Jesus name, Amen.
