The Journey Home
Wendy Sue began her journey of earthly life on January 22, 1976, when she was born to Steve and Myrtis Wagner. Growing up, she was the typical inquisitive child with a mind of her own. Her childhood journey included education in Christian schools and being a preacher’s kid. Wendy’s journey of coming to know Christ is shared in her testimony on the next page.
Wendy’s journey into becoming a wife began on January 1, 1994, when she married Andrew Alpaugh, which led to her journey into motherhood when their first child, Tyler, was born on June 29, 1995. They eventually had two more children, Emily and Bryson. Wendy had the privilege to be a stay-at-home mom. She loved being in her home, she loved her family, and she loved the Lord. Her favorite Bible verses were Proverbs 3:5-6.
On August 7, 2015, Wendy began a new journey in life when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The surgery on August 10 revealed that it was a glioblastoma, and the surgeon gave her from 15-24 months to live. After a brave battle with the cancer through chemotherapy, radiation, and a clinical trial at Duke University with immune therapy, the tumor returned with vengeance in the spring of 2017. After 21 months on what turned out to be her final journey, Wendy entered the presence of the Lord on May 16, 2017 at age 41. Thousands of prayers went up for her healing, and the Lord answered by giving her perfect healing. We rejoice that she is with her Heavenly Father today, and we who are in Christ will see her again.
Wendy’s Testimony
(as written by her in 2006)
“I was raised in a Christian home and went to a Bible-believing church and had heard the Gospel message several times. I made a profession of faith when I was around the age of 4 and was baptized around the age of 6.
“It was in my teenage years that I began having doubts about my salvation and came to the realization that my profession of faith was not genuinely from the heart.
“It was just before reaching my 16th birthday while laying on my bed one evening that the Lord convicted me very strongly that I had never truly repented of my sins, and I didn’t have a personal relationship with Him. I knew that I was a wicked sinner on my way to hell. That evening, I believed in my heart that Jesus died for my sins, was buried and rose again! I repented of my sins and asked Christ to come into my heart and be my Savior. I turned from my wicked ways and placed my trust in Christ for my salvation.
“Since receiving Christ, I have given public testimony to my conversion through believer’s baptism, and I have been blessed in so many ways with God’s grace and peace. I can never be thankful enough that I have a Heavenly Father who will never leave me nor forsake me. It is my desire to not only pray and to give money for souls to be saved, but also to have the courage to share this testimony with others.”
Where is your journey leading you?
We are all on a journey of life which will take us into eternity. Everyone will either spend eternity with the Lord in the light of His presence or apart from the Lord in eternal darkness and torment. The God of the Bible has given us freedom to choose. We can believe Him and His Word and rest in His promises, or we can choose to go our own way which leads to eternal death. “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 14:12). Our Lord told us how to get home in John 14:6: “…I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.”
Do you know where your eternal destination is? Is your journey of life leading you to eternal life or to eternal death? Don’t trifle with this all-important matter which has eternal consequences.
Wendy has shared her testimony with you of how she came to know the Lord and received His gift of eternal life by grace through faith. If you have questions about what Bible salvation is, please contact us.
