We all think we’re good.

But that’s our mind and perception. Jesus said nobody is good but God. We’ve all missed the mark of perfection and have sinned, separating us from God. We all have offended God and are deserving of His wrath. However, God does not wish for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance and faith in His only Son Jesus.

This may be hard but hang with me. Think of the most grievous and wretched sin you have ever committed. Do you still think you’re good? Has your heart been pricked and stung? Are you sorry you rebelled against God?

Now, see the goodness of God.

Even though you committed that heinous sin, God loves you so much that He still sent His one and only Son Jesus to die on the cross for you. He did that to save you from that horrible sin you committed and all the other ones—past, present, and future. Somebody had to be sinless and die the death we all deserve to satisfy the wrath of God; that’s exactly what Jesus did. He never sinned. The last three words Jesus said on the cross were, “It is finished.” In other words, because of Jesus’ great sacrifice, all your sins are paid in full, with no debt or anything held against you. This forgiveness is yours if you believe and come by faith to Him and receive Him as your Lord and Savior.

Three days after Jesus’ death, He rose from the dead and defeated death and is in heaven now watching you read this. Are you truly sorry for your sins? If you’re not, you won’t see your need for a Savior (Jesus) to save you from those sins. You and God are not “ok” right now—there is a huge gap of sin still separating you from Him. Don’t fool yourself. Is there a godly sorrow in your heart? If so, do you now have a desire to turn from your sins and turn to Jesus, making Him first and the Lord of your life? Today could be your day for salvation.

Are you ready to stop running away from God and start running towards Him? Ready to forsake your selfish life of sin and come into a personal relationship with Jesus? It doesn’t matter what you have done—your sins could be wiped clean today and never be counted against you. You will be forgiven and redeemed, God will give you a new heart, and the Holy Spirit will come live in You. God will save you and use you if you seek Him and follow Him. This is the goodness of God.

Is your heart soft enough to pray a prayer like this one?

“Father God, I want to stop my current lifestyle and turn to You. I need help. I’m sorry for my sins towards You. I believe Jesus is Your one and only Son who came to die for me and all my sins. I believe in my heart that He rose from the dead and is alive. Today, I receive Him and confess with my mouth that He is my Lord and Savior. Please fill me with Your Spirit and make me a new creation in Jesus Christ. I put all my trust in Jesus and His finished work on the cross for me. I will rest in this faith and truth. Jesus, please come into my heart and save my soul.”

“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life’” (John 8:12).

“Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed” (John 8:36).
