As a server, your work is a reflection of good character! Well, there was someone else who also served us well—Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself says in Matthew 20:28,
“The Son of Man [Jesus] did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
Pretty interesting. We all get the first part—He served people by teaching them, healing them, and performing other miracles. But the second part? He gave his life a ransom for many? What is THAT about?
The Bible tells us that we can be certain of going to Heaven. However, to get into a perfect Heaven, we must be perfect also. The problem is that none of us are perfect; we have all done things wrong. The good news is that God loves us so much that He made a way for us to get into Heaven in spite of our sin. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to pay the penalty for those sins. Remember Good Friday and Easter? The crucifixion of Christ shows us how awful wrongdoing is, and the resurrection assures us that the price for it has been paid. God has come to us and provided the way of saving us because we could not save ourselves. THAT is the “ransom” part!
There is only one thing left for us to do: believe God or not believe God. Jesus said, “He that believes in me has everlasting life” (John 6:47). Right now, why not trust Him as your Savior from sin so you can know that you have eternal life. His gift of salvation becomes yours when you realize your need of Him and ask Him to save you.
That conversation might sound something like this
“Jesus, I’ve been doing my life my way, I’ve done things that are wrong. My only hope for being forgiven, of knowing God, and of ever getting to Heaven is You. I’m putting all my trust in You, Lord Jesus. Thank You for dying for my sins, rising from the dead, and forgiving all I’ve done wrong.”
Thanks again for your service!
