“Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.” (Isaiah 1:18).
We ask ourselves, how can anything red become white as snow? It certainly goes against the law of nature.
Let us look at it from a spiritual perspective.
When GOD created Adam and placed him in the garden of Eden, HE looked and saw that Adam needed a helper, so HE created Eve. They were living in the most beautiful and perfect world of beauty! There was one thing that they were forbidden to do in the garden:They must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. But they were tempted by a serpent to eat the fruit from this forbidden tree. Being tempted, they both partook of the forbidden fruit and after eating it, their eyes were opened to their nakedness and they felt shame, and GOD banished them from the Garden, marking the “Fall of Man” and the loss of their innocent, perfect state.
Fall of Man
THE SERPENT’S TEMPTATION: The serpent, identified as the devil or Satan, convinced Eve that if they ate the forbidden fruit, they would not die but would become wise, knowing good and evil.
DISOBEDIENCE: Eve ate the fruit and gave it to Adam, who also ate it.
REALIZATION & SHAME: Immediately after eating, their eyes were opened, and they realized they were naked and felt shame and hid from GOD.
CONSEQUENCES & JUDGEMENT: GOD confronted Adam and Eve. Adam blamed Eve for his disobedience, and Eve blamed the serpent.
PUNISHMENT: GOD cursed the serpent to crawl on its belly. He also pronounced consequences for Eve (pain in childbirth) and Adam (toil and work for food).
BANISHMENT: To prevent them from eating from the Tree of Life and living forever in their sinful state, GOD banished Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden.
GUARDIANS OF EDEN: Cherubim (angels) were stationed at the entrance of the Garden to guard the way to the Tree of Life, ensuring they could not return.
WHAT IS THE FALL OF MAN?
The Fall of Man refers to humanity’s loss of innocence and descent into sin after Adam & Eve’s disobedience in the Garden of Eden, resulting in original sin, suffering and death.
The remedy for the Fall is the salvation offered through Jesus Christ’s atoning sacrifice and resurrection, which provides redemption, reconciliation with GOD, and the promise of eternal life to believers, effectively reversing Adam’s sin and restoring humanity to a state of grace and fellowship.
ATONING SACRIFICE: Through HIS obedience and sacrificial death, Christ’s work reverses the sin and disobedience of Adam.
JUSTIFICATION & RESTORATION: Christ’s sacrifice offers justification, cleansing from sin (“though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow” – our key verse), and reconciliation with GOD, restoring humanity’s spiritual connection!
ETERNAL LIFE: Believers in Christ are promised justification and life, with the ultimate hope of eternal life in a renewed paradise that surpasses the original Eden.
HOW TO REALIZE THE NEED FOR SALVATION:
To realize the need for GOD’s salvation, you must first acknowledge your own sinfulness and the resulting separation from GOD. Through prayer, you can then confess your sins to GOD, repent by turning away from them, and place your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, believing HE died as the sacrifice for your sins and was buried and rose again three days later to complete the plan of salvation! This act of faith is a gift from GOD’s grace, not something earned through works.
Key verses are:
Romans 5:8 – “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
I Peter 2:24 – “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”Romans 4:25 – “[He] was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification”, showing that His resurrection was essential for the forgiveness of sins.
I Corinthians 15:3 & 4 – “For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”
WHAT IS THE RESULT OF SALVATION?
Salvation mends the relationship with GOD that was broken by sin. You receive eternal life, spiritual life, rather than perishing! You enter a new, permanent relationship with GOD!
We pray that if you realize that you need a Savior, that you would call upon the name of the LORD to be forgiven and saved for all eternity!
Romans 10:13 – “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
