Mary had a little boy;
His soul was white as snow;
He never went to church at all
’Cause Mary wouldn’t go.
Thoughts of Jesus and such the like
Never filled his childish mind.
While all his buddies went to church,
This boy was left behind.
The preacher invited his mom
When the boy was just a lad,
“No need to go to church today—
Besides, he’s not that bad!”
The boy grew from lad to teen,
Time just slipped away.
His soul that once was snowy white
Had turned a dingy gray.
She realized he was going astray.
She tried to win him back.
That soul that had turned dingy gray
Was now an ugly black.
She began to go to church
And Bible study too;
She said, “Pastor, you’ve got to help him,
Is there anything you can do?”
The preacher did his best and failed.
“We’re just too far behind.
I tried to tell you years ago,
But you would pay no mind.”
And so another man is lost,
Jesus he will never know.
They told of Him at Sunday School,
But Mary wouldn’t go.

A Parent’s Responsibility
The best time to teach a person about Jesus is in their youth, when their heart is soft and they have not yet been enslaved by the wicked culture. If children are not grounded in God’s ways by age 12, it becomes much harder to reach them. The teen years brings many temptations such as drugs, alcohol, sex, and crime, and without a relationship with God and a knowledge of His word, it is almost impossible for them to resist these youthful sins.
Will you accept your responsibility as a parent to lead your children to Jesus before their souls become a dirty black? Why not start by taking the whole family to church this Sunday?
